It seems like for many people the answer is 'Whatever size Apple decides'. For others who have used larger screens, the answer is USUALLY the bigger the better. I like the size of the EVO but higher resolutions would be great. When I use friend's iPhones I hate the size of it. Way too small. Obviously at some point, probably approaching 5 inches, the size of the screen becomes too large to be practical to carry around normally.

One thing I would bet money on though, the size will trend upward even from Apple.

I own the iPhone 4 and IMO I think its one of the best smartphones available, but I prefer/want a 4.3" screen. How do you explain that?

From what I saw, the Sensation is not compatible with AT&T's 3G network.
Quad-band voice, Tri-band data. UTMS 850/1900 missing.
Conclusion: Unless they announce some new specs, you will be knocked down to EDGE speeds on AT&T.

http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html

Kind of what I figured - I was actually aware of the above specs, but it was just unclear to me whether this was for the European version only. In any case I seem to be on a ~12 month upgrade cycle for phones anyway, so I'd almost certainly have moved on to something else by the time AT&T would have repurposed T-Mobile's AWS bands for LTE.

I could always get the G2x which would avoid this problem entirely, but it bothers me how much useless bezel space there is at the bottom. (Edit: And the resolution is lower)

Before you buy, make sure it actually has AT&T bands. The only proof that it has them is based on the specs listed on TMO page and they are notorius for getting those wrong.

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...me=N&application_id=318824&fcc_id='BEJP999DW'

The 3rd page of the test report pdf doesn't have AT&T bands listed.

Again, make sure it has them before you buy.

As for AT&T shutting AWS down, I am pretty sure that won't happen for a while. By the time it does, AT&T will give you free comparable phone. Considering how quickly phones age, the free replacement will likely be better than the AWS you may get now.

2. whatever inches that the old WimMo phones like the Moto Q & Samsung Blackjack were.

4.5-5"? I have a Galaxy S, and 4" is nice, but just a bit bigger would be nice. Not too big, though, or it would start being inconvenient.

3.7 is actually not much better than 3.5... especially if you compare the iPhone's aspect ratio to Android's. My Droid/Milestone is much harder to type on. I'd pick 4".

Currently I have the HTC Desire with a 3.7" 800x480 screen, and it's fine for most things, but for web browsing a bigger and higher resolution screen would be a huge benefit.

I'm definitely thinking about getting the new HTC Sensation with the 4.3" 960x540 resolution screen. With a screen like that you almost eliminate the need to get a tablet as well as your phone.

I liked the HTC Aria. It only had 3.2" screen which is a little too small mainly because I'm used to bigger screen but I thought the phone size itself was just about perfect.

And I find your wall-of-text hilarious. It's too easy to get this kind of reaction out of you. Maybe your diaper needs to be changed.

You basically admitted to trolling on this topic earlier... I really wish someone would smack you down for it. Posts like yours are what make having adult conversations somewhat difficult here. Save it for off topic.

Too bad. I really couldn't care less if you have a problem with it or if someone "smacks me down".

Of COURSE you do.

As for wanting a larger screen size, I think many people who own an iPhone secretly do, they just won't express it. Once/If Apple releases a 4 inch screen they will all be going insane on how revolutionary it is.

The iPhone probably is one of, if not the best phone out there. The downside of that is that Apple makes all the choices for you. You get what they give you.

Between 4" and 5" is fine with me. Depends more on the resolution what size though. If we're going to 1024x* or 1280x720 screens, 5" is a must.

I must be the only one who prefers a small screen. I have aT-Mobile Comet, and all it has is a 2.8" screen. Small and easily fits into any pocket. Works well as an mp3 player or radio when I go running. I also do not have any problems with reading the screen.

I remember when I was in high school bigger was better for portable stereos. (Just dated myself there) Then it became smaller is better. Now smartphones are going back to bigger is better. But for me, a small phone is better and more convenient.

Jim

nah, we're just in the minority. I actually really like the HP Veer. While it seems pretty quick, 2yrs is a long time to hold on to it. That's the downside to smaller phones... less room to cram awesome hardware in. Ideally, i'd have a small phone, use it as a mobile hotspot, and a ~8" tablet.

I was thinking the same thing. If he isn't upset, why did he type three paragraphs on why he's not upset? lol

Maybe because I'm a reasoning person. I enjoy discussions. I enjoy learning. I don't mind debating with someone. What I do mind is the type of idiotic posts. And as much as zsdersw will try to paint me as a raving fanboy I have spoken out against Apple when I feel they are wrong and I have refuted what some genuine Apple fanboys have said (there are very very few of them, there are much more Apple haters). I post it more to point out his bias than anything.

Seriously, I learned a long long time ago not to get upset on the internet. That's not to say I don't get annoyed at times but "undies in a bunch" type upset is not what I do. I do enjoy reading and writing and discussions. Maybe that's why my posts can be long winded at times. But upset? LoL. If you still feel I was raging mad, so be it. I can't stop you from feeling that way. You'll be wrong but you are free to feel that way.

Last I will comment on the off topic track that a certain troll started us upon.

I'm not painting you as a fanboy.. I'm painting you as someone who "minds" too much what he cannot control. In other words, if my posts bother you.. ignore them or deal with it. I'm not going to change what I do because you don't like it.

Calm it down a bit, zsdersw. Please post on the topic and not about certain users. If you want to have a discussion with another user, send them a personal message.

Eh, I've got no problem with expressing wanting a bigger screen phone. If I can get a 4"+ retina phone, that would be awesome. I'm liking the small bezel of the sensation, if apple had something like that but with iPhone construction that would be sweet.

The G2X doesn't cover AT&T 3G bands for data either even though it's advertised as such on the T-Mobile page and every Android review websites of the device.
There's a 20+ page thread on XDA about this exact issue. Read it.

One more reason to not go out rushing to buy a new phone upon release.
Always better to wait a month or two after release for things to settle.
