There are a few that really get to me. Some are religious and some not.

Ave Maria
Amazing Grace
Prayer of St. Francis (Let Me be a Channel of your Peace): This one is perfect.

Secular:

Tears in Heaven
Living Years

Red Hot Chili PEppers - Soul to Squeeze.

This song will calm me down no matter WHAT the situation is. It penetrates like a tranqualizer... It's almost like a lullabye.

I used to be in the choir in church growing up, and Amazing Grace always did bring me to tears.

Secular would have to be Hold On and The Wall by Kansas, who were the Creed of my time.

Puff the Magic Dragon by P P and M, and The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot also really get to me...

BTW, mighty provocative title for your thread. I see you are learning the tricks of the trade, under Chapter 3: How to Draw People Into a Thread, EveryTime!

oooh oooh, got to edit for one more: The wedding song that might be called "There is Love" that goes... "Wherever two or more are gathered in His name, there is Love". Makes me cry every single time.

I don't know... Lately I've been listening (and playing along on the guitar) to a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers, my two favorite being Under The Bridge and Californication.

I can play both of them, although I find Under The Bridge a lot harder to play (exactly as they play it)... Californication is easy, but there's a part I forget.. oh well.

Too $hort's "Invasion of the Flat Booty B*tches" has to be the most touching song I have ever heard.

"A n*gga like me, I know what's up
I need a nasty b*tch with a lot of butt
If I can't find one anywhere
It turns my dreams to nightmares"

WOW. Poetry straight from the soul.

Thought of another one.
My dad has a friend in a band. Well, the name rhymes with Venus De Milo...

These rate right up there.

Stevie Nicks - "Has anyone ever written anything for you"
Kathy Mateos - "Where have you been"
Barber - "Adagio for Strings" (from Platoon)

Then there was that old song..."See the tree how big its grown...(yadda.... yadda...yadda). That'll screw up your day!

Hmm, anything on the Chicago's Greatest Hits album. I listened to that one a whole lot when I was in high school. Almost everyone I know has owned that album at some point in their lives hehe. Hmm, what was the last song on that album? Ah yes, "If She Could Have Been Faithful"

Also I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachlan. I'm not a fan of her stuff, but that the lyrics and her voice on that song are pretty moving.

I have to add a couple songs that never fail to move me...

My Maria by Brooks and Dunn, although the original version was my first love. Why? My best friend in the whole world is named Maria, and when I was little, I thought she was mine.

Eres Tu by Mocedades, the most beautiful Spanish pop song ever. I have the words and the translation down here somewhere... Oh, I love that song! Maybe I can find the m3p.

For me:

Enigma MCMXC a.d.
Dido - No Angel
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (her other stuff too)
Any Trance - esp Paul Oakenfold mixes
Portishead
George Winston

individual songs:

Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me
Don Henley - End Of The Innocence
k.d. Lang - Constant Craving
Dave Grusin - On Golden Pond
Sade - Ordinary Love
Fleetwood Mac - Landslide (Tori Amos covers this REALLY well also)
Theme from "The Piano"

I like heavy metal and rap too but I wouldn't say any songs in those genres "penetrate" me... (man that sounds so... dirty...)

l2c

Edit: How could I forget Maxwell's cover of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work"... WOW
