What started as a speaker review.... [Now A Rant!]

Ok, I've had these speakers for a while now and I've had the opportunity to fine tune them using both the standard audigy 2 and now the X-Fi.

That being said, I really took the time to sit down tonight and fine tune each setting right down to what felt like forever carefully adjusting the equalizer. It was tedious.

I don't know, I guess you could say I got what I paid for, that being affordably priced speakers with a big subwoofer but I have come to expect more from Logitech. I refuse to use anything but microsoft or logitech when it comes to keyboard and mouse. (Obviously, aside from Razer... *DROOL*) On one hand, Microsoft will basically replace your mouse for your lifetime, but with design flaws like the "F LOCK" key, it just makes you wonder why no one caught that. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with the "F LOCK" key, it is a feature to really **** with us knowlegable users by booting with the "F LOCK" keys disabled until they are switched on.) Come to think of it, this feature is STILL included in top of the line Microsoft keyboards in the $100-$150 price range.

Back to topic... I don't reccomend the Z-5300e speaker system for users where audio quality will be a key selling point. Its loud enough to make games sound good, but music will never sound just right. The speakers just FEEL like mass produced junk. Long story short, they are what they are... just don't expect Logitech to come through for you on these speakers.

For me? I'm going to stick with cambridge soundworks... I'll let you know

Gotta agree on that one, the 5300s are shabby. With Logitech you probably wanna shoot for the 5500s.

That F-Lock 'feature' drove me nuts too and I was starting to lose my mind when searching for a new keyboard. Until, I found a registry hack that elminate it. Been using it for months and I can finally use my MS keyboard without wanting to throw it through the window a few times a day.

I went to BestBuy and bought a pair of 5 1/2 Sony Bookshelf speakers for $60 after listening to about every PC soundsystem there is.

Hooked the Sony's up to a spare Pioneer Receiver I had, and all was good. Sounds about a billion times better than any $200 PC sound system on the rack.

And why are you playing with the equailizer? If you had some decent sounding speakers you would not have to.

Logitech likes making speakers that sound like like mud. They also enjoy puting subs in an overly SMALL cabinet so it makes a really boomy sound. (AKA signal tone sub.)

Just stick with a set of Klipsch 5.1 Ultras if you want to actully HEAR what you are suppose to hear.
