What movie/game/book has just a world of despair. Seems to be no hope at all and things just seems to get worst.

On The Beach
I wanted to slit my wrists right along with the main characters by the end of that book... it's about a town in Australia just waiting for the nuclear fallout to reach them and kill them all.

The Chronicles of Thomas Convenant, the Unbeliever.
The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
The Thirst chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
Each chronicles get more and more bleak as it progresses. It's so painful to read but you must keep going XD

ALL restaurants are Taco Bell! The Horror!
The Road follows a man and a boy, father and son, journeying together for many months across a post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after a great, unexplained cataclysm. The story takes place in the former United States, in the lower Appalachian mountains, where civilization has been destroyed, along with most life; the precise fate of the rest of the earth is not made clear, though the implication is that the disaster has affected the entire planet. What is left of humanity now consists largely of bands of cannibals and their prey, and refugees who scavenge for food. Ash covers the surface of the earth; in the atmosphere, it obscures the sun and moon, and the two travelers breathe through improvised masks to filter it out. Plants and animals are apparently all dead (dead wood for fuel is plentiful), and the rivers and oceans are seemingly empty of life. The only non-human organisms they encounter are a dog, some edible mushrooms, moss, and some mold and shriveled apples found in an orchard. (pulled from Wikipedia)

Id have to say The Rising and Dead City both by Brian Keene portray a pretty torn down world.
from wikipedia:
"The dead are returning to life as zombies. But they are not just flesh-eating ghouls, they are intelligent, capable creatures that are taking on all forms of life: both human and animal."
So everyone dead around you including the animals and eventually even the plant life are intelligent zombies who can communicate with each other and follow orders and can do anything the human body could before they became zombies, drive cars motorcycles and tanks, shoot guns, and even run and they hate all humans and their main objective is to kill all humans so the rest of their evil buddies can inhabit earth..
so yeah the more humans they kill the more human bodies they can inhabit....which in turn just multiplies their numbers and kill more humans...no where to run or hide none of this slow moving zombie stuff.
