i paid about 500 for my maui jim prescription sun glasses.

i have a cylinder measurement over 3. great lenses are expensive.

not sure about nike, but the lenses i got from maui jim were the best ground lenses i have ever had in my life.

MJ <> Nike.

I have had $500 frames/lenses in my life back in the 80's, I know how much a nice set of frames can cost. I haven't seen much from Nike that was that expensive though except full retail.

Right now some Carreras; used to rock a pair of David Yurman, but I converted those into prescription glasses because I like the style so much. With polycarbonate lenses, those DY weigh as much as a feather. Before that, various designers, I usually sat on my glasses after a while, or get them stolen. Went a few years without shades because I got tired if replacing them.

Why would you pay $400 for any Nike Frame plus basic prescription lenses even if high index?!?!

I can only use my insurance once every two years, and I had used them to buy a pair already. The frames were ~$240 and I had them put on UV protection, scratch resistance, tints and whatever else they could think of.

In the end it came out a lot. I have a really messed up prescription too supposedly.

Your lenses are usually the least of the battle with cool frames.

I don't know how much I get, but I think it does cover a portion of the frames as well. Still a mark better than my old job where I had no benefits what so ever. Costco usually has cheaper frames. I don't give a rats ass if they're designer. They all come out of the same factory, literally.

My favorite pair were my Giorgio Armani sunglasses. Loved them. Now I have some Ray-Ban's and they're ok.

same factory <> same quality.

However, designer frames often are not literally from the same place.

Most of the big eyeware brands and stores like Lens Crafters and Sunglass Hut are owned by Luxxotica (you spell it). Last I checked, Maui Jim is not one of them.

I actually looked up my MJs and it looks like they've been discontinued.

Ray Bans are stylish and very "affordable" in terms of designer eyeware, but the designs I like are usually base-curve 6. This is flat enough that if my back's to the sun, i get a perfect reflection of it off the sides of the lens. So, I stick to Maui Jim, which has a shit ton of base-curve 8 designs.
