they have bluetooth keyboards for ipads, but the on screen one isn't bad at all.

On screen keyboards are OK on small device, on something about the size of a small laptop they suck. I'd be fairly shocked if you said you preferred to type on a tablet compared to a similar sized laptop.

Dealing with a tablet and an unattached keyboard seems more hassle than just having a laptop in the first place.

About the only thing I've found tablets OK for is watching videos and.... well videos look quite nice on them.

OH and photos!

If you're going to use the tablet for actual work, than a real keyboard is important. Without one, its not going to replace the laptop.

Nook color. Great as a couch tablet, for church, any non-cpu intensive taskes (web browsing, etc).

iPad2 for the wife (for TW Cable app, WatchESPN).

iPad 1 is my main tablet. Use it for web surfing, reading manga, sometimes reading books.

Nook Color (rooted) is my second tablet. I us it more for book reading because it's lighter. I also play most of my games on this.

Touchpad is my third and least used. It's got great speakers, so it is on my nightstand playing music. Sometimes I use it for web surfing and watching videos.

iPad 2 - I mainly use mine as a mobile recorder with Garageband and an IK Multmedia iRig Mic, for projects that don't need more than a few tracks. While it still doesn't replace a laptop + audio controller + MIDI keyboard, for quick 'n dirty recordings or scratch tracks it's worked out pretty well for me. Technically I could get by with doing the same on my phone, but the tiny screen there is a disadvantage, vs the larger screen on a tablet.

I grab whatever's closest to me. Normally I grab one of the Touchpads sitting on the touchstone charger. Touchpads are hacked with dualboot CM7 Alpha 3.5/ WebOS. I have one in the bedroom, living room, and the bathroom. If I'm in my bed, I like to use my 7" AT&T Galaxy Tab.

I do occasionally use iPad1 and iPad2. But wife and daughter use it so I try not mess with it too much. I want to JB and install XBMC but haven't because I don't want to be blamed everytime something goes wrong. I still haven't updated the devices to iOS 5.

I have an asus transformer (no accessory) that i use on travel. No complaints though it woudln't hurt if the screen was a bit brighter. I might upgrade once samsung starts comming out with oled tablets if they have sd slots and are affordable (I use the sd slot on the transformer for movies). Might also consider a smaller tablet for books if iti s super thing and super light (like a colour kindle - not the fire that was recently released) and has an oled display.

why would a tablet be expected to replace a laptop or desktop even?
If you need a laptop then you get and use one. Not sit there and complain about something that exists but you don't personally need. That's silly. lol
Might as well complain about cars when you need and want a truck.

No tablet. I had custody of my friend's ipad when she was overseas for a few months. I tried it out a little bit at first and then realized that it was nearly totally useless for me. When I'm at home a computer is better to use and the ipad is too large to just carry around with me like a smartphone. It just ended up gathering dust.

I sometimes wonder what percentage of ipads (and tablets in general) are like the Wii, bought because they were neat but ultimately just left in the corner.

Playbook... Bitched enough about it, so I'll talk positive? I use it as a portable camera and picture viewer, also as a boom box.

I want a Windows based tablet that works seamlessly with a Windows computer. Hoping 9"-ish screen becomes standard. Portrait 7" is a joke... Landscape 7" is workable, but very limited vertical space.

Using an iPad 2. I am tempted to pick up a Transformer Prime though

Anand has a f/u on the main page, and he's gone through 3 review units now. I think I'll sit out for gen 3 at this point. I do like Android quite a bit, and the reviews of ICS are very good.

One of the things that irritates the hell out of me with the Flyer's soft buttons is that when I'm typing, I keep hitting home, back, and action accidentally. Perhaps on a larger device that's not a problem, but I just read a reviewer saying he's having the same issues with the new Nexus...

You do have a point and I read it...I am hoping they delay it and fix those issues. Sounds like it might have just been a loose cable. I have my iPad 2 right now, so it isn't a priority. I would rather see ICS on the tablets versus Honeycomb anyways.

Looks like they are delayed:

Nook Color running CyanogenMod 7.1. I mainly use it for viewing pdf and docx files and it is easily capable of those tasks. If I need more performance on the go I use my Thinkpad x220 or Galaxy S2.

Had an HP Touchpad and tried it both with CM9 and WebOS, now it sits gathering dust while I use my iPad 2 everyday. Say what you will, iOS is better than both of them for just working out of the box.
CM9?? You mean CM7?

Anyway, my iPad 2 arrived today. It's for my grandparents but I'm setting it up. Oh god. Just sitting down for 10 seconds with Flipboard is like heaven compared to using those pathetic RSS readers on Android and even Google Currents doesn't come anywhere close.

Other than that I use my Touchpad but mainly on webOS. The battery life on CM7 is pathetic

I'm using the Kindle Fire running CM7. Waiting on the ICS port to be finished up then I will be running that.

Touchpad with CM7 Xron-modded. Battery life is passable (pretty much about the same as WebOS, that is, not terribly great) but just picking it up from the Touchstone charger is nice.

Works fine and the speakers are good for a tablet but it's often easier to just use my computer that's just sitting there. Opera Mobile works great in tablet form (Firefox Mobile works surprisingly well too) but when you really want to crank out posts on a forum, a computer is nicer with a keyboard and mouse.

1-2% per hour in CM7 is not the same as webOS. I left my Touchpad on the floor next to my bed for 8 days and I picked it up and it was still at around 40%. It synced email and Facebook for 8 days straight. It will NOT last that long on Android.

Acer Iconia. Neat little device, but not fast enough for my needs. I'll be looking into the new Transformer down the road. MKV playback is a must.
