Doing well on my "don't turn the heating on till Christmas" policy.

I suspect I'm getting to free-ride on my neighbours heating, to some extent.

The environment where you live determines how impressive this is.

In south Florida for example heat is optional 98% of the time.

62 in here this morning, cranked up the wood stove and its about 70 now, my office is a back corner and is cold all the damn time. must be in the 20s outside. winter storm rolling in tomorrow with 3 to 6 in of snow and a lows in the teens and high around 30. wood stove will be cranked all weekend. that sucker will stay warm for around 12 hours after you stuff it full of hardwood. getting the heat around the house can be a problem though.

Mainly I refuse to have the heating on till my transfer to my new (post-old-supplier-bankrupcy) is actually complete. It seems to be taking them forever (old one went bust months ago and the transfer is still only "almost complete"), but until I know for sure my credit balance from my previous supplier has not disappeared, I'm not going to consume any gas. (They've doubled the unit charge as it is). Fortunate that this place is well-insulated.

That's my problem. I'm in a long ass rancher, and the stove room will be blazing hot, and the other end of the house chilly. It could be better, but I like the dichotomy. Thermostat is set to 48° as an emergency backup, but ideally, it won't come on. 51° when I got home today, and 37° outside. Just lit a fire.

20C inside now, and -12 out.

I let the house drop to like 11 degrees last night while on night shift. I always forget that when I'm done my last night shift, it's a day later after midnight, and I had not set a heating schedule for that day yet so after midnight it defaulted to 5. I set it before heading home so at least the heat was running by the time I got home.

Back in the days before central heating in most homes there was a dang good reason for all-terrain slippers, heavy flannel PJ's and stuff like woolen night-Caps"!

When the only significant heat in the house is an big iron stove downstairs in the kitchen, extra insulation is a requirement. Waking up blowing steam in your bedroom cannot have been a lot of fun.

And don't even get me started about using the bathroom!

Wow you need a door on the outhouse!!

about 10 outside and 64 inside this morning.

@lxskllr closing all the vents in the stove room seems to have helped quite a bit. need to get some sheets of magnet to try blocking the returns in the outside of the house. I think our HVAC system fan is just not very good. may need a cleaning as well.

weather channel shows I was hit by a terrible rain storm last night, but I never heard or saw it.
Anyway, 41 degrees which is still kinda warm for mid December.
