I was thinking the A8-7600 APU would be perfect here... thoughts?
My thought is, why? ST performance of the A8 is not going to be anything to brag about, and the budget seems to indicate that a dGPU is not a problem. So, why A8?

I don't understand the reason for recommending a slow i5 for Minecraft. AFAIK, it is single-threaded, and would therefore run best on a late-model CPU with high clock speed, regardless of core count. I'd just as soon run a i3-4170 at 3.7GHz.
Lol, if that's so, grab a g3258, I'm running 2 threads worth of haswell @4.6 @$70 cpu xD

No reason for a K series if no overclocking in that case. It would be silly to buy a 4790 (k or otherwise) for minecraft IMO.

Silly or not, the 4790k is still the fastest stock CPU Intel has. You don't need to OC one of those. No other Haswell ships at those speeds. Don't let the 'k' fool you.

The G3258 is a really sweet chip for what it does, but you can run the risk of "SC2 Effect", which is the CPU being perfectly fine for one ST-dependent game (like SC2) until you try doing anything at all simultaneously which can bring the system to a crawl.

If the OP were up to overclocking and could handle being "old school" enough to close everything and halt every significant background task (antivirus, etc) during gameplay sessions, that'd be a good budget solution to the problem.

Problem with the 3258 is that the OP doesnt sound very knowledgeable so probably would not overclock. Unfortunately the OP also seems MIA. Based on the information we have, I would still think an i3 and something like a GTX 750Ti would be a good compromise. Or perhaps just a gpu upgrade to the system they have, but again we dont know what it is.

I have a feeling the OP is quite young. And that he/she isn't skilled in building a computer and so was asking for computer model recommendations to purchase complete.

G3258 runs minecraft very well. It loves high clocks and IPC and little else. It does not require more than an intel IGP.

You could buy three or four computers that run Minecraft just fine with $1000.

Not even kidding basically any APU + 4GB RAM is more than sufficient and dirt cheap.

Thing is, I'm not trolling. I have a 4.3Ghz 4670k, 1.1Ghz 280x, 8GB RAM, and I am running off an SSD but could still drop below 40fps. I'll upload proof if you wish.
If OP has $1k and wants to play modded (that is why I asked) I think the 4690k, GTX 960, and 8GB RAM is a great place to start.
i think you just need to assign more ram to minecraft/java. same specs as me (mine is a 770) and my fps count is ridiculous (i around 130)

also: optifine

4GB allocated, FTB infinity running 17 extra mods. It'll use more than 6GB RAM and still lag. I said I'll post proof. Give me a couple hours

And I run optifine.

yeah but OP who cant even write Minecraft properly will probably not be running that many mods.

and putting 17 mods on an already poorly optimized game like MC is suicidal.

honestly, im curious as to what those 17 mods could possibly be. bukkit / ic2?

I'm running 174 mods. List is far too big.
