I doule clicked on my Winamp shortcut, and My comp turned off by itself and rebooted? What the hell is going on?
This has happened to me before also. In the middle of browsing sites or something, my pc will power off and restart?

This same thing happened to my previous PC which is dead now (mobo fried eventually).

The only thing i can think of is the memory, or the video card which i am using in the current pc that came from my dead pc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you are overclocking anything, don't.. If you can try another video card, do so and see if the problem goes away..

Virus or weak power supply. Go to pcpitstop.com and do an online virus scan.

i would definately check in to the power supply. a good power supply with a steady 5v rail is a must in todays systems. ram could also be the problem, but i would try the power supply first. Antec and Enermax are two very good PSU's. secondly, check your BIOS and if there is a "Spread Spectrum", disable it. it will most likely be a number expressed in a percentage. What this does is tells the computer that it is ok if a power spike or another anomoly occurs, that it is alright if the core frequency fluctuates by said percentage. in a 1.0GHz system, just 5% would result in a 50MHz jump (or drop, but its the jumps you should be concerned with). A good power supply will regulate the power going in (clean it up) and make sure that your + and - voltages to the proc, mem, and the rest of the board are as stable as possible. well....good luck

guess what guys? It seems to be the VID card. I took it out after it shut off again, and it was bloody hot. So i let it cool a bit and plugged it back in and watched it. That sorry fan on the heat sink was not spinning. It's a Creative Labs TNT2Ultra. Apparently when I had the side panel off, it didn't mess up (ventilation). After I put the side panel back on, it kept on shutting off every few hours. Funny thing is that i took this card from my Atlhlon system that has a messed up motherboard now. There is black gunk under the capacitors/resistors? behind slot A of my Abit Ka7. It seems like a leak. I wonder if the motherboard is INDEED messed up or not. Anyhow, i'm sending it in to get it checked out. Can't believe a Vid Card took out my KA7 and almost my celeron's IWILL mobo.

By the way, thanks for all the help. Also, where can i get a replacement fan for my TNT2Ultra's heatsink. i have some 80mm fans lying around but the connector's different (can i just tie one over the heatsink and plug the fan into my power supply so it's always running?
Thanks for the help again.
Davi

Hmmm... My Abit Ka7 did exactly the same thing (black stuff oozing out of the capacitors behind the CPU slot) but I assumed it was a static related problem since I had the case open and been working on it, and someone dropped one of those static based dust rags in there. I didn't try the motherboard after noticing the capacitors looked damaged. Chances are, they're toast.
