what the hell is it with people, thesedays?!?!?!?! i can NOT figure out how people think they can drive TWO FEET off of someone's rear bumber while they are driving down the freeway/interstate at 75mph.

do they even for a moment contemplate that, if the driver in front of them had to stop quickly, they would SO be a part of that car because they would not even know what happened before it happened...

i swear, if anything demonstrates human character (or lack thereof), driving courtesy does.

so. anyone have similar stories?

or--better yet: are YOU one of the people who tries to draft the car in front of you (similar to bicycle racing) and CAN YOU JUSTIFY IT?

edit: when i am on my bike (motorcycle) i notice that people tailgate even more!!! i will get people frequently three feet off my ass--not realizing that a motorcyle can outbrake (and out-accelerate) a car. if i touched my brakes, it's likely they would kill me. idiots.

I hate driving in the Bay Area. Here in the Sac area, everyone goes a nice 70-75 miles an hour generally, keep their distance, and let people merge. In the Bay Area, you've got people doing everything from 45 to 85, cutting in and out, tailgating, cutting people off, and general aggressive driving. Ick.

Thank you. There is little that annoys me more than some idiot in the left lane when the right lane is clear for a mile. I'll hang 2-3 carlengths back and flash my lights (which, as anyone who actually knows the rules of the road knows, means "please move into the normal lane, I wish to pass"). I'd say that in my experience only 30%-40% of the drivers know what this means. 50%-60% are clueless, and 10% think it means "even though you are in the passing lane when the driving lane is more than clear, I don't want you to move over to allow me to pass. Instead, I want you to be an asshole.". If there are two lanes, the left is a passing lane, not a fast lane. If there are three lanes, the left is still passing and still not a fast lane, and the right lane is a truck lane, not the driving lane. OK, rant over.
