I like Japanese food, or German, Austrian sweets are great, french cuisine is marvelous, Indian cuisine is as well (although in small portions because usually the spicy taste is too strong for me), Hungarian goulashes are something I'll never get tired of.

What's the point about the ingredients? It's all about how you prepare them, not where are they from. My biggest problem with most American food (which is derivated from cuisines from all around the world) is that usually there's too much sugar or salt in it. Too much margarine in many cakes. Have you ever tried classic "Sacher torte" of Vienna?

grew up in the same environment and agree with you, especially the goulash

If I drink a lot of beer, I crave ice cream like a creamaholic. I'm not sure why, either.

And BlueBell has come out with some really good and some really bad flavors a lot lately. Best recent flavor was Mango. I had to restrain myself from eating it all in one sitting, it was almost as good as something you could make yourself.

Worst recent flavour was Caramel Cheese Cake Turtles I think it was. This stuff is caramelized to the max, and was just like eating frozen caramel, then biting into the chocolate turtles filled with gooey caramel was the worst thing I think I ever experienced when eating an ice cream. And the cheese cake pieces were completely ruined and tasteless because all you could taste was the caramel swirls and turtles. UGH! That was definitely a beer chaser ice cream, just to get the rancid taste out of my mouth!

I'm working on some vanilla with chocolate swirl and coconut shreds now, it's OK I guess, but the coconut taste seems a bit lacking in it. Some nice coconut chunks would have been a lot better.

Usually BlueBell is the only store bought ice cream I ever eat, since they raise their own cows to get the milk and they use no preservatives besides salt.

I can't speak for the place you linked but most places offering more off the wall flavors are going to be small time and not use artificial flavors, will use real fruit, will locally sourced cream, etc. They are places that attract foodies that pay attention to that stuff.

If your complaint is you don't like odd flavors and just want basic that's fine but don't conflate basic flavors with being natural and more complex/odd flavors with not being natural.

If you want hazelnut or lemon you should be looking for gelato not ice cream in my experience those are far more classic as gelato flavors.

That may be true, but I haven't found a good place with no oversweetened ice cream since they closed this little gelateria in Little Italy a year ago. Two weeks ago I was in a small shop in Ottawa and bought one scoop of a peach ice cream and one scoop of a chocolate ice cream (you know, they say that chocolate is least likely to be badly made), but god, the peach was horrible, hardly tasting anything like and the chocolate was oversweetened, tasting like all these cheap chocolate that are made out of cocoa powder... And at first glance, it looked so good...

Actually, gelato IS an ice cream.

This is a huge gripe that I have - everything is either covered in sugar, or swimming in fat. The specific example I have is that I've never been to an Italian restaurant in New Zealand that's made me a proper carbonara. The sauce is always white, there's always too much of it, it always tastes of cream instead of egg and cheese, there's never enough pepper to balance the meat and fat, and as a result it makes me want to gag each and every time. For goodness' sake, it's not that hard.

well carbonara is pretty easy, just do it at home.
I don't understand going to the restaurant to eat stuff that has no risk of tasting bad if you try cooking it at home. But here restaurants are outrageously pricey so maybe it's a habit stemming from that.

Also gelato = ice cream, it's a literal translation.

I remember lemon ice cream growing up back in northern ohio. used to love it. I just called my cousin to ask if they still get it and she said yes.

My aunt is quite ill and we'll have to go out for the funeral. I apologize for looking forward to the trip because of lemon ice cream. Well, it's also nice to see the family.

Except it's not, really. For starters, gelato is usually made with milk while ice cream is made with cream.

Making gelato is similar to making ice cream. The mixture for gelato is typically prepared using a hot process first, where the sugars need to dissolve. White base is heated to 85 °C (185 °F) completing a pasteurization program.

I would never eat ice cream from a home machine. I was going to buy an industrial one, but I tried it and the ice crystals were just too big no matter how much I adjusted the air incorporation. I only eat ice cream made by using liquid nitrogen now. Everything else is disgusting.

What are you talking about?

I make my ice cream with an MRI.

Both is made by both. Only difference is on the preparation process.

Frozen custard is much more cream and egg solids.

Frozen yogurt is yogurt or milk, no cream.

In the Persian Empire, people would pour grape-juice concentrate over snow, in a bowl, and eat this as a treat. This was done primarily when the weather was hot, using snow saved in the cool-keeping underground chambers known as "yakhchal", or taken from snowfall that remained at the top of mountains by the summer capital — Hagmatana, Ecbatana or Hamedan of today. In 400 BC, the Persians went further and invented a special chilled food, made of rose water and vermicelli, which was served to royalty during summers.[4] The ice was mixed with saffron, fruits, and various other flavours.

Also you are all wrong. On account the REAL original flavor of "ice cream" is Grape.

/case closed.

Awesome! Let me know how it works out.

so, we made some, and it was really good!

the minions made chocolate - we added some cocoa powder to the mix.

i made mint choc chip by adding peppermint extract and choc chips. it was super good.

the only issue was that minion #2 decided that he was tired of shaking the bag after about one minute. :\
so i was switching between his and mine and so all my chips sort of settled and froze into one part of my ice cream.

i took pics but i forgot the camera at home. i'll post em later. thanks again for the video tho, it was fun and minion #1 looooved her ice cream.

Glad it worked! Adding peppermint extract to my shopping list right now.

That only works if you generalize every frozen treat as "ice cream." Cream is right in the name, so if there isn't any cream in it, it technically isn't "ice cream."
