I can't tell if your serious or not. I'm sure you could get away with it under the mircrowave. Just not in an oven or microwave oven. LEDs have trouble handling the heat as it is.

I'm not sure about microwaves, but with ovens the ambient temperature is an issue. For example, the LEDs my company uses in our lighting fixtures have a junction temperature limits of 135-150C depending on the LED. Putting one in an oven would exceed that limit without even turning the LED on.

It's non-dimmable which could be a fire hazard used with a dimmer. Then the light output is only 80 lumens which is a joke.

This is for under the microwave.

Why would you put a light under your microwave? There's like 5mm of clearance under microwaves.

the same reason why they tell you not to put metal inside a microwave...

u would fry the circuit on the LED everytime u went to heat something up.

Edit: oh wait... light under a microwave?

Why not just LED strip it then if you want something like that...

You've never seen a microwave mounted over the range?
Yes but I've seen just as many sitting on counters.

Just like I've seen ranges without microwaves on them.

If he's talking about lights under ranges, why didn't he say that?

Although it is not wise for an appliance that heats food with a glass tube, but a fun way would be to have a microwave that instead of using a light, uses a tube with fluorescent gas or that the tube has a fluorescent coating that is not electrically powered. Just that the microwaves excites the electrons in the gas and the gas will emit light or the coating does. Would also be a great way to see when the microwave is active. Or that the inner side of the microwave has a coating that emits light when bombarded with microwaves.

You do realize they are talking about use within the MicroWave Oven, not adjacent (or under) it where there is plenty of shielding.

Lights inside the oven and under microwaves don't tend to get turned on that often/long so the savings are so small it's not worth it. They are also in high heat environments so incandescent is better.

What I do wonder is what they will do in places that are banning incandescent.

Also just realized that I've never actually had to change a bulb inside a microwave. Not that they get turned on that often so guess they tend to outlive the microwave itself. Even my parent's microwave that only died like 5ish years ago never needed a bulb change and it was a good 25 years old.

He is talking about microwave that doubles as range exhaust. The light isbfor the range, not inside the microwave.

I think it was enough to be implied.

That being said: OP, why are you mounting a microwave over your range? You know those stupid blowers don't actually do anything, right? The smoke is hardly filtered by those dinky screens and is just blown back into your face and the kitchen.

Also, they are almost universally mounted far too low for the dinky fans to actually do their job.

Normally those blowers hook up to outside. Though for mine I ended up capping the vent in the attic since the roof vent portion was causing lot of issues so I just had it completely removed by a roofer.

I should probably take down the microwave some time and reverse the flap so it just recirculates the air. Those don't really do all that much but the air movement can help a bit.

It's highly convenient there and not taking up space elsewhere in the kitchen. Also the blowers make a huge difference in steam dispersal from cooking, even on the lowest fan setting. The output is way above my head (no I'm not sorry) and without it running all the stream from cooking IS going in my face.

As someone who uses the light under the range microwave regularly..the thought was pretty clear.

This is another one of those threads derailed by a bunch of people who don't understand there are more things in the world than their little circle of comfort.
