sit him down, tell him that his 400 bucks rent does not cover the internet. setup your router so he cant access, mac filtering, time restrictions, pick your flavor. or cancel the internet as a whole. make him pay to have a separate line run in. convince his mom that he needs to grow up and throw in a rent escalation clause. give him 3 months at the 400 rate, then each month thereafter it goes up by whatever number you say. get his mom to agree by keeping his money in a separate account that you'll give back to him as a gift/surprise when he starts to get his act together.

Warcrack strikes again. Hell the game has caused death to some individuals. Blizzard has mastered the art of virtual drugs. Sad sad sad.

Wow, what a loser. I knew some people who played Warcrack all day in high school, but honestly...23? Does he even have a degree? I don't understand how people can play WoW all day long - it's not nearly as stimulating as being with real people. And I wouldn't be able to help thinking of myself as a loser if I did that. Does he think he's going anywhere?

I know a lot of ways to piss him off to make him want to move out (I play too much and know too much ):

Change his pw and email in his account so that the only way he can get his stuff back is by admitting someone else had access to his account and that will get his account banned, in addition you can delete everything he has and give away and delete him gold then give his shit back. He cant get anything back because if he told a GM to restore his gear they would find out someone else in his family had access to his stuff and he would get banned for that.

Delete his gear 3 times because you only get 3 full restores per account and if you keep doing it the GMs will just ban him after awhile from all the drama he causes.

Make an ass of his char in his guild and to everyone, swear at him and whatnot will get him vacations, spamming trade and general chat with the same shit over and over can do it real quick.

There are certain bugs with the game that allow you to lag other people out, I could tell you but I will not discuss over the boards for obvious reasons.

he's not lazy, he does sound unmodivated to do anything productive. I bet he's awesome in WOW. I am faaaaar too lazy to play WOW and grind all day every day to level up and get gold. That kind of dedication to Wow shows he probably could be very good at anything he puts his mind too. A true lazy person wouldn't even exert the energy to play wow.

He worked on the weekends since he was 18...I assume...was never charged rent to he pocketed all his $$$...the thing is when his account depletes since he has no full time income..he will still have to pay rent and then maybe he will wake up..I actually think he is not capable of working full time.

It's up to his mom, you will never be a dad to him anyway.

Keep your house stocked with Mt. Dew, ramen noodles and candy...eventually you'll get a return on your investment.

LOL! That is so bad.

1. Block off the WoW ports and block Blizzard's IP addresses. He's an adult, he can pay his way through your house if he wants to, else he can leave and play WoW elsewhere.

2. Send him to rehab. Seriously.

Stupid kid has an addiction! We should kick him out and not help him! Let the vultures have at his eyes I say!

In all seriousness, coming onto a forum with a ton of WoW players will not get much sympathy for you or your situation. Instead of taking the hardass approach and calling him a loser perhaps you should try to help him get rid of his addiction as if it were drugs. You fighting the child of your fiancee will not win you any brownie points with her and will eventually lead to your separation because she WILL stand up for him even if he is completely in the wrong. Its what moms do.

Hay, just because it's a LAN party doesn't mean you can't get ass. But, if it was a LAN party and he did get ass, his mother will have to struggle with which is worse. Having a homosexual son, or a WOW addict. lol

I went to college full time, had a gf (now my wife), worked full time and managed to raid in WoW. I can tell you it is hard to quit. If you are marrying his mother then you should care how his life is going. Don't do anything that will make him distrust you for a long time.

Take the kid fishing, to weddings, on a vacation. He needs to realize the real world can be greater than the fake one. That is how I quit.

Set your router to either block the ports WoW uses or use the QoS features to make his internet traffic the lowest priority (and maybe limit his total bandwidth as well). You may want to put the router in a locked box to keep him from doing a hard reset to get around what you did.

I was thinking of cutting him off entirely from 11pm-8am, block his mac address in my router setup

That really won't solve anything. The kid stormed out of the house when you downloaded a file, if you block him he may grab a knife. People like him (I used to be like this somewhat) get really irritated when taken away from the game. You need to give him reasons not to play not just cut it off.
