Hi guys,

I'm going to be heading up to Salem, Oregon tomorrow with a couple of friends. We were wondering how we should keep ourselves amused for a few days.

We're also probably going to venture up to Portland on Sunday morning.

Cheers!

Nothing really in Salem. The Oregon gardens are there though. Really nice place. But you probably aren't into that sort of thing. Besides that.... I honestly dont think there is a single fun thing there.

Portland on the other hand has a lot to do.

And whats with so many people from Oregon or going to Oregon on this site lol.

California is so much nicer. There are way too many tree hugging hippies in Oregon.

California is full of anally retentive self-centered ignorant stoner assholes who can't drive if their life depended on it.

Both states suck.

If you are a late night person, go to Portland City Grill after 10pm for the cheapass appetizers and the view. Pretty women there too when I was there last night.

I just moved to Portland about a month ago and can vouch for the fact that there is tons of good stuff to do up here. I've already had to spend some time in Salem for work and, well, it kinda sucked. At least, compared to Portland it sucked.

Spend your time up here. You can't go wrong.

Titty bars!

Portland has the best nudie bars I have ever been too. Full bar & full nude! Starz in Beaverton is great.

I don't miss Oregon but I sure do miss the nudie bars!

Since my friend is moving back to Salem, I don't think we can skip it.

The Oregon Garden definitely looks rather neat.

The Spruce Goose (yes, that Spruce Goose) is in McMinnville, about 25 miles west of I-5 between Salem & Portland.

Portland has a Mailbu Grand Prix track off of hwy 217. Zoom zoom.

Hhahahaha.
When I was in Oregon, I did a lot of hiking. Coming from the plains I tried to get a lot of that in while I was there.

I am sure that we will manage to get some hiking expeditions in over the weekend.

Nudie bars? Hmm... Perhaps we can make a stop somewhere.

Well, there's one less now. I made the move from Southern Oregon to Charlotte, NC about 3 months ago.

But yeah, from the time I've spent there, Salem's pretty boring. Portland on the other hand seems to always have something going on. Lots of live music, good restaurants, etc. If you are into books at all, you have to go to Powell's book store on Burnside. It's one of the biggest bookstores in the country. Maybe even in the world. They've got a huge selection of used books.

Downtown Portland is really beautiful. I spent some time up there a few months ago, for the first time in a few years. I was really surprised at how much nicer it had become. Maybe it's the economic recovery, but the whole downtown seemed to have been cleaned up and there is a lot of new upscale development going on. Downtown has always been a cool place to visit, but a few years ago, it seemed a lot more dirty and rundown.

Salem is the armpit of Oregon. There's not much to do there, except that the State Fair is this weekend (and it's a good one if you enjoy that kind of thing). Or, if you like hiking, there's always Silver Falls State Park. Good road trips out of Salem are Detroit Lake in the Cascade Mts. to the east, or head west to Lincoln City/Depoe Bay/Newport on the Pacific coast to the west.

OTOH, there's so much to do in Portland -- the crown jewel of Oregon -- that I don't even know where to begin.

Beware going to the North Oregon Coast or to Mt. Hood this weekend though. They're running the Hood to Coast relay. Highways in those areas will be either packed or closed.

The Oregon coast, FTW!

Newport
Lincoln City
Seaside

Those are all good places to be, good bars, good food, etc.

Saturday Market in Portland (yes, open on Sunday as well, go figure) Check out one of the many brew theaters, drink beer while watching a flick. I would go to the coast though, I would avoid Seaside due the aforementioned Hood to Coast relay.

Salem really is a pit though.
