How To

What To Do When iPhone Fails To Turn Off

There are several reasons why your iPhone might not be turning off. Read on to see the two reasons.

Perform A ‘Hard Reset’ on your Phone
The safest way to go is to force a ‘Restart’ or ‘Hard Reset’ on your iPhone if it doesn't go off. These are the ways for each model.

Early Versions of iPhone Including Version 6
These earlier versions of the iPhone required a simple combination of buttons to perform a hard reset: just press don the 'Power' and the 'Home' buttons together for some seconds, screen will go black and the Apple will appear in bright white.

In-Between Versions: iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
The combination for the following models is a little more complicated but not as much as for the latter models. In this case you have to press the 'Volume Down' button and hold it with the 'Side' button until the screen goes black and the Apple appears.

Latest Models: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X
The most complicated sequence of them all is still quite easy to achieve. For this model, you should press the ‘Volume Up’ button, then the 'Volume Down' and finally the ‘Side’ button. The only one you need to hold is the final one until the screen goes black and the Apple appears in it.

Enable Assistive Touch
Assistive touch is what Apple added to the iPhone software for accessibility reasons. It will let you go into your phone´s settings even when the keys are not responding.

Step 1
Access the Accessibility Menu

For this you need to go to ‘Settings’, then to 'General' and then to the 'Accessibility' menu.

Step 2
Turn the ‘AssistiveTouch’ Assistance ‘On’

Inside the ‘Accessibility’ Menu, you can turn the ‘Assistive Touch On’.

The ‘AssistiveTouch’ menu will come up to the screen to let you maneuver your iPhone from there.

Step 3
Go to ‘Device’

Once the ‘AssistiveTouch’ menu comes up, hit ‘Device’.

Step 4
’Power Off’ your Phone from the Menu that Pops Up

The inner device menu will allow you to 'Power Off' your phone. Just press down and hold the 'Lock Screen' button and it will let you 'Power Off' the device from that menu.

So, now the issue is resolved, you can now turn off your iOS device whenever you need.
