Some users have reported that they get error messages when they check for latest version of iOS. They get error messages stating ‘Unable to Check for Update’. If this is the issue, then follow steps below to fix it.
Step 1
Check ‘Apple Servers’
Visit Apple System Status page and check if the servers are down. The status near macOS Software Update should be green and not yellow or red. If it is yellow, then the issue is with Apple and they will fix it. Users may encounter similar issues when apple servers are down. If this doesn’t help, proceed to step 2.
Step 2
Check ‘Device’
The following parameters should be checked properly.
- iPhone is fully charged
- Device WiFi connection is strong
- Optimum storage is available for the update
Try ‘Hard reset’
Hold the home button and the 'Sleep/Wake' button at the same time until the screen turns off and release the buttons once apple logo appears. This would reboot your device. Once it is rebooted, click on 'Settings' > 'General' > 'About' and make sure the issue is fixed. If the issue still persists, proceed to step 4.
Step 4
Reset ‘Network settings’
iOS features not showing up can also occur due to network issues.This can be fixed by resetting the network settings. ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Reset’ > Click ‘Reset Network Setings’.
Step 5
Try ‘Restore and Update’
Take a complete backup of the phone on a computer via iTunes, click the device connected to the iTunes and tap summary and Restore iPhone. This restores the device to the previous state before the issue. Now check for updates for the connected iPhone in the iTunes page. Click download and update. This would fix the issue if any of the above-mentioned steps dint work.
