atm the PhysX card is not for retail sale I think and i dont think it offers much of an increase in performance to the games it can be run on. I dunno, but I think I will save the money. Just any firther tweaks on the above system or comments on my last comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Modular PSUs worthy of high-powered rigs include Seasonic upcoming M12 line and the Enhance ENS-0560G, both of which will probably be hard to find and/or expensive in oz. Conroe in oz will probably be heart breakingly price tagged, and AM2 is still Hammer architecture, so don't expect to notice outside of 1-5% differences in benchmarks. Do not hesitate to up the HDD to the WD3200KS!

Maybe a switch over to the Asus A8R32 and a Sapphire 100149

Topic Summary:
Get a hooker.

Wow, that reminds me the time me and my cousin asked for an escort in Vegas. They said it would be $200. Ended up, it was $200 for her to come through the DOOR. Suffice to say, we thanked her for coming, and said goodbye after giving her all of our dough v_v

Roofinex.

Oh crap, that's a joke....

*hides behind a bush in case GreenMan poseur-mod is about*

If you paid $200 in vegas for an overpriced call girl, when you could have gone outside Clark county and gotten a real american whore... wow man. Tough luck.

lol, bad luck mate . I have not found any direct comparisons of the ATI chip v the nvidia chip, or the 2 gfx cards running on either. What does the 1900 tend to do better than the 7900GT? I think I might stick with the NEOHE it seems a solid performer and I am sure the problems have been rectified, but if not, I can always return it . So ribbon13, what u just said before was basically dont wait for the new sockets to come out cos they will be too expensive? Also what will initially be offered by the conroe processor, speed wise and a relative price guess?

Also I have never really thought of this but is SLI worth getting? I am not going for the dualies yet but i am thinking of futureproofing. Is it worth getting to future proof the system or will it just be a waste of money?

Everything.

Intel has spent a lot of money on hyping it, and if they do pull off a solid 11 IPC, expect prices to be very high. 939 vs AM2 isn't anything you'd be concerned over, given it looks like you're planning a gaming rig.

Also I have never really thought of this but is SLI worth getting?

As an upgrade path, it's a terrible idea. The value of SLI depends greatly on multiple factors, like which games, and your running resolution. I could justify a 30" IPS LCD long before SLI, but the former would necessitate the latter for any sort of gaming.

O...K well i think I will not go SLI then, i just thought it would allow me to boost performance in the games that arent out yet which will hopefully then justify it as an upgrade path. ATM isnt it maily driver issues keeping SLI as a bad performer in practice? Does the 7900GTX perform as well as the 1900XT cos they are about the same price

skip this PSU if the rest of your parts are not going to be silent built. it's like getting 2 gigs of RAM for a Celeron, fallback on system parts wouldn't make sense if the gain of one peice of hardware can't be noticed all together.

they have for under a hundred bucks, 16mb cache drives with NCQ, which is a very good deal I think.

For $125 (Newegg), the Seasonic 500W is only $25 more than the Antec. You can let Currybreakfast decide if he wants one of the better PSUs.

Get the new Seasonic 600s. Definitely worth it. This is a PSU you will keep around forever....

You're buying not only into silence but reliability, efficiency and solid stability. The tight voltage regulation of a Seasonic is just pure awesome. Kills that Fotrton POSes you guys always name (and they suck I dont get why you always recommend Fortrons)

Seasonic is out of the question, they are on the other side of the country and I didnt plan on posting it, I will use them only if they are a heap better than any others.

I'm not really sure about how those 2 cards compare but I think it is a toss up. The X1900 does better at some things, 7900GTX does better at others. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I own a X1900XT and apart from the fact that the stock cooler can get somewhat annoying under load (its pretty quiet when idling) I love it. And really the noise isn't too bad because I've never had it max out the fan speed yet when using it. The only time I hear it at max is for a couple seconds when I first turn on the computer

ok, I currently have an ATI 9600XT (awesome card for its time) and I would like to stick ith ATI, but another question is: do the ATI chipsets on the mobo perform as well as the Nvidia counterparts?

Get a cheaper motherboard and save the money. Right now it doesn't matter if you have an ATI video card with an Nvidia chipset or any combination of the video cards\chipsets. They perform the same.

OK so get a non SLI board, get the extra 8M cache on the HDD, get a 1900XT, and look for a different PSU. is that it?

Something that most don't even consider.....an ergo keyboard....i.e., the MS Ergonomic 400. Takes about a week to get used to but after that regular boards seem medieval. And don't let others tell you otherwise.....it is *excellent* for games, especially FPSs. My two cents anyway.

Excuse to point out the insignificant differences

I beg to differ though. Given CPU trends, he may as well prepare to keep the whole platform for another GPU generation. DX10 is probably going to change things. A lot. Theres going to be a lot less overhead for things like mutli-GPU rendering and physics, and PPU usage. From a gamers standpoint, a motherboard xor CPU upgrade may not be necessary for some time.

-- rumour mode --

And since ATi is really playing hardball, do not be suprised if ATi coups the next round. They're pissed about ULi, and they've a crapload of chips going out, regardless of what nVidia does, thanks to the to consoles. One of those being a console sold by Microsoft, who makes the undisputed gamer's platform: Windows. Sapphire had to upgrade thier Fab because of the Xbox 360 and because nVidia has been playing hardball as well using TMSC as a pawn. This left CrossFire as Vaporware in the not so distant past. They're also pissed about that. So ATi/Sapph have output capacity, lots of revenue, a lead on DX10, and a score to settle.

I'm preparing to see a Tenshou Kaireki-Jin to nVidia's nuts myself.

I would save it. Run your new rig for a while and then decide if it is all that you wanted it to be. If you find something lacking, then you have some money to fix that issue. Just my opinion.

Side note: I would also go with a different PSU.

ctrl+c failure leading to wrong URL. Fixed now. >.<

Ironically, what Skype & Intel did is exactly why Crossfire and SLI don't won't work on nVidias and ATi's chipsets respectively: They are playing the same game.

you could buy a used phase change system.
Seriously just keep the money. It's not like you can't use it elsewhere. Or get some good and quiet air cooling.

Thanx all for your help, i think I will stick with my current system for the time being. I shall wait till conroe enters the market and see how that goes for performance/price and if it is as good as people are saying the left over money can go into the newer architecture.

Now that I look back on it the idea of using SLI as an upgrade path was quite bad so thank you ribbon 13 for saving me .

This computer has served me well (with its fair share of problems) and I hope that it will contine to do so for anoter month or so. I have done some more research on the newer architecture and have taken in all of your valuable comments (for which I am very grateful) and have come to the conclusion to see how conroe goes, and that AM2 has given some sort of headroom for upgrades as it is the new socket of which AMD will be releasing their first 65nm core so it wont be such a bad upgrade for futureproofing.

Once again I thank all of the people who have commented. All of your help has been grately appreciated and has most definately been taken in and used.

Thanks
