I have a fish tank which originally held 4 fish. Now it has 2. It seems one of the surviving fish is eating pieces out of the other fish. This is odd because the fish is a danio, which is typically a community fish that gets along with other fish. The fish he ate this morning was a male betta, which is an aggressive fish. I can't believe my aggressive fish (who incidentally made a good tank mate) let himself get eaten by a non-aggressive fish.
So anyway... I have two fish left: one is this aggressive danio; the other is a female betta whom he tried to eat once before, but I seperated the betta and let her heal in a separate tank. How would you guys handle this? I want to get more fish to rebuild my population, but I don't want the danio to take bites out of them. I also don't want to maintain a separate tank with just the offending fish in it. I'm further not too keen on just killing it. What would you guys do?
