I dunno what kind of danio it is, but I don't think it's a zebra danio. In any case... he's an ass.

I do like the "see if a friend wants it" option. I will pursue that for now.

I just put this aggressor danio into a separate fishbowl and WOW is he pissed! He's been trying to bust through the glass at me ever since I put him in there 5 minutes ago. This fish has some issues.

I have asked this very same question before. In fact, I was so fed up with the fish's behavior, that I went straight to asking "How do I beat my fish?" Cause he was a very, very bad fish.

So bad in fact, that he took it upon himself to eat the face off another one of my fishes. Which lived for a good two days with no face, I took pictures, tried to freeze him, he just wouldnt die, everyone had a great time overall....

If you've been around here for a few years, you just might remember it.

Bring it to the store you brought it from. The aquarium stores I used to frequent had aggressive tanks they'd keep returns in.

I am guessing Giant Danio, not Zebra. A little aggressive (getting towards Tiger Barb). I had one live for about 3 years with Malawian rift lake cichlids (Pseudotropheus, Melanochromis, etc.) They get to be almost 2", are quick, don't hold still, and are really hardy.

I had a jack dempsy that would do that. I think before my brother gave him to me, he had killed about 5 other fish. The only apt name for him was Viscious Bastard and that he was called. He was an awesome fish.

Funny you mention an aggresive fish. I went to my chiropractor yesterday, they have this great salt water tank. There was a new addition I noticed, I started talking to one of receptionists there, about him. He's a trigger fish, they are aggresive.

Story has it, they bought him from a local Red Lobsters, seems this trigger fish, ate the star attraction of their tank, he ate Nemo. LOL.

He seems to be doing fine in this tank, the other fish don't take his crap. What was interesting, I would walk back and forth, damn fish would follow you. I went into the corner, he would butt his head up against the glass, and keep doing it. He was funny.

He acts like he's hungry I told the receptionist. He's always hungry, the doctor is thinking about getting him some shrimp. He doesn't want no stinkin pellets, he's had a taste of meat! He wants the real stuff.

A few things: 1) You need to be feeding them more often 2) Check your temps, I haven't had freshwater in a while, but when the temps are too high in my salt water tank the fish get kind of antsy. 3) change around the rocks etc a couple of times a day until the behavior stops

I had a Theraps Bifasciatum (sorry, no common name) that fit this bill. He cleaned out a 125g. My wife named him Hannibel after the character in Silence of the Lambs. You could put your face to the glass and he would make runs at you. He used to attack you, but he gave himself a concussion once that lasted two weeks (swam sideways the whole time). He toned it down a little after that. Would eat anything that moved in his tank. He would come up out of the water to grab an earthworm.

Oh, back on topic. Either get more aggressive fish or see if a pet store will take it.

Go to the pet store and buy a bunch of random fish of different sizes(even throw some salt water fish in there too to make it more interesting)....popcorn, beer, and a nice comfy chair and watch the feeding frenzy.

Bettas are NOT community fish. Many fish will pick on their fins due to the movement and colours. Not to mention captive tropical freshwater fishes are often fed colourful flakes 98% of the time.

Cheers!

Yeah... I know Bettas aren't community fish but my circumstances were weird. I had the betta as my only fish in a glass vase/bowl thing. Then my friend gave me a 6-gallon tank for xmas. Far more than a betta needs on his own, and I didn't want to maintain two fish habitats. I researched betta compatibility online for about a week and bought fish most likely to not cause a conflict. But as I now see... it wasn't a guarantee. Aside from that danio, the betta did just fine. He was an active fish in the tank, like the others. I won't be getting another male betta however.

I am going to Petco later today to buy new fishes. While I'm there I'll see if they are interested in a "return", if I haven't found an adoptive family for the danio by then.

The suggestions are awesome and funny, everyone... It looks like I'll be able to avoid killing the danio and that makes me feel a lot better.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I just gave the aggressive danio, in a separate fishbowl, to a friend who agreed to take care of it. So he's out of my hair, and my 6 gallon tank now contains a sole fish, a 1.25 inch female betta. I'll bring the population back up to 5 or 6 later this afternoon.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm glad I didn't have to kill the guy.

LOL, I miss my Oscar. I had one a few years ago that used to murder anything I put in the tank with it.

I could sit and watch him maul the other fish all day long.

Last time I checked we flushed humans who killed all their roommates. The fish should be an easier decision.
