What to do with inoperable vehicle?

Some time back my Subaru WRX suffered engine failure. Not having much time to deal with things I parked it and purchased a new vehicle. Now I really need to figure out what to do with it, and I'm kind of at a loss. Fixing it via a mechanic will be about 6k (or more), and the car was only worth 10k so I don't want to do that. I can't put it in my garage as my lease has a clause against inoperable vehicles on the premises. This makes it difficult to work on it. If I could put it in my garage I would take the engine out and work on it as able. I'm not sure how to sell it like is either.

Any ideas on what I could do with it? I really hate to see it go (first car I bought), but I can't leave it hanging around much longer.

Talked to the people that control the lease.
Let them know that you need to pull the engine and rebuild it. Provide them a time frame that it is expected to be in the garage being worked on.

I would think that as long as you intend on actually fixing the vehicle it is different than an junk/abandoned vehicle (intention of the lease clause?)

If that does not work; donate the vehicle to a local high school auto shop. They will be able to tear down the engine and the training will be useful. Win-Win.

Donating a dead vehicle to charity will just send it to the wrecker yard anyhow.

Donate or call a junk yard that picks up wrecks.

Might call body shops or independent mechanics and ask if they're interested. I know when my wife totalled her car years ago the body shop offered to buy it off her if she got it back from insurance. I guess fixing stuff on their own time and reselling is something they do fairly often. Might get a better offer.

Or sell it as is for $4-5k. If it is worth 9-10k in good shape somebody will take it and swap in a junkyard engine themselves. Just put it on craigslist and subaru forums.

Multiple jacked-up disabled vehicles around a Georgia residence generally reflects affluency.
And the car tire planters. Don't forget them.

That too.

Yeah, someone who may have wrecked their car, but with a good engine will transplant into your clean frame. Otherwise, they might want your parts. A friend and I split a wrx that got tboned. He took the engine, I took the transmission and various other drivetrain parts.

subaru forums.

This and Grassrootsmotorsports.com

As long as the shell is good and it has a clean title someone looking for a project will come and get it. It's so much easier to deal with people who are enthusiasts too. They know what the car is actually worth. The local body shop might be interested but they will beat you down on price.

is it clean? other mechanicals are good? a WRX will be easy to sell even needing a motor. Heck, I am kind of interested.

What year?
if its in good condition, you can probably sell the 'shell' over on NASIOC.com or CL

As clean as a 10yr WRX generally is. Had just passed over 90k in miles, that service had been done and routine maintenance always done.

I'll probably just look into selling it as is.
