Hey i'm going to be in the hole for a long time. I have $45k school loan, $20k car loan, and $2k in CC on my shoulders. It'll probably be 10+ yrs before I'm clean. Your 2 yrs is nothing man.

I am not working towards anything. I want to buy an engagement ring for my GF and get married, buy a car, house, go travelling... I can't do any of it, I can't even work towards it.

At the present rate, I'm just going to waste over 2 years of my life with nothing accomplished other than being able to say I have no debt. I won't have any money or any assets, I'll just be free of any commitments.

This is so depressing to just be floating through life...

I know the feeling as I have been there....hell most of us have at one time or another.
Try not to look at it as "2 years paying off debt" but more like "after 2 years I will be debt free. Then I can do those things I want to do."
Debt is a fact of life for most of us but the kind of debt is what's important. Mortgage debt is one thing...credit card debt is another. Paying off credit card debt is a very liberating feeling!!!
Hang in there, pay it off and remember that each month you pay it down - without adding to it - is one month closer to where you want to be.
Good Luck and know you're not alone

Got a friend that does that, and makes $5,000 USD a year. By Chinese standards and where he lives, that's plenty to live on. More than enough. But it isn't obscene. Far from it.

News flash. Life never had a meaning. It's only purpose is to ensure its own continuation through survival and reproduction.

Dig yourself out of debt and get on with your life. Two years is really not that bad. Some people have student loans hovering over their head for the better part of a decade.

Step 3 . . . profit.

If you do have debt and a plan to get out. You will ahve fantastic credit when you do. Thereby making the biggest single purchase, your home, have a low interest rate for your loan.

Paying off credit can seem to be an endless circle until it's paid off, and your life changing purchases can be had at very reasonable loan rates. Refinancing vehicles with a good credit standing can save you a ton of money as well.

If you can pay your debt off in two years, you're still a lot better off than a lot of people.

Two years is nothing.Just consider that you will be working until your are 65.So two years is a drop in the bucket.

You must have gotten SOMETHING in return for your debt. You just didn't pay for it then...so you have to pay for it now.

That is the situation I'm in right now, but we're still able to save aggressively, so that once our debt is paid off, we'll still have some money to work with.

Wow, that's incredibly bad advice, assuming the major source of debt is high-interest CC debt (unless you have a can't-miss-greater-return-than-CC-interest-rate investment lined up).

I see a lot of young people in debt. They have poor money management skills.

In fact, most people seem to rack up debt because media/society pushes them to have poor money management skills. How many times have you seen a thread on ATOT where someone gets out of college, gets a job, then just starts buying things like a house, car, HDTV etc.? That's just stupid. If you're not out of debt yet, you shouldn't be buying any of those things. Maybe the house, but you can get a cheap used car and no HDTV.

I have no debt. Actually I have my monthly credit card bill but it's insignificant.

1] There is *always* somebody worse off than you.

2] Quit being selfish. Literally. Quit thinking about yourself and volunteer in the community - reach out beyond your normal sphere of life.

3] Set *realistic* goals.

4] See your doctor - get on some anti-depressants.

I know the feeling man, im in the same boat right now, just shelling out every paycheck to pay off debts so i can go back to school. Just bite the bullet and wait it out man, I cant wait to get my life off of hold and back on track.
