So air fryers were all the rage last year. Cut to my birthday and now I have an unopened one in my kitchen. I cannot determine if it is a regift or new purchase.

So, what should I do/make with it? Don't think I can sell it as the gifter may notice the absence.

For starters, french fries. Lemme know cuz I just bought one and if it doesn't turn out well I can take it back. I got the Nuwave Brio 6 qt. Things a huge monster.

fry more air, duh.

I don't have one of my own, but I have had some success with tossing in some frozen TJ's brussels sprouts with cubed asian pear, shallots, garlic, and tossed in honey/balsamic/olive oil/thyme glaze with salt and pepper.

Those brussel sprouts sound good. I checked some recipes for french fries and some call for soaking the potatoes and others just to cut them up. We'll see what works. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mine worked excellent for warming up fast food french fries. It doesn't take long either. Works way better than a microwave which makes them soggy.

I cannot determine if it is a regift or new purchase.

This is the most important thing. You have to figure this out before you can do anything else with your life. Check serial numbers to determine month and year of manufacture. Call the manufacturer, ask questions. Don't quit until you've gotten all the information you need. Escalate things to corporate if necessary. Then ask all of you acquaintances if they've given anyone the same item as a gift. Track down the seller, have them check their sales records, inventory, purchase orders.

Let us know what you find out.

Don't think I can sell it as the gifter may notice the absence.

If you stick it back in its box and put it on a shelf in the garage, like everyone else does with air fryers that they don't need or want, will they also notice?

That's a good idea actually. I wonder if they've come out with a new version this year. Could indicate a regift. Then I wouldn't feel bad about regifting in kind. But I would have to find out who the original gifter was so I don't end up gifting the same gift back to them. Could make them...suspicions...

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with mine. It's not really so much a fryer, as it is a turbo convection oven, so you have to adjust recipes so that they don't dry out. It's really good for frozen foods, especially ones that have been previously deep-fried & are ready to bake: chicken nuggets, fish sticks, French fries, taquitos, etc. So if you like frozen convenience foods or cook for kids, it's a pretty good kitchen gadget to have. Again, because it's really just a faster convection oven (i.e. an oven with a fan, and in this case, a high-speed fan in a small container so it heats up quicker & cooks quicker), you can't really "fry" with it. Some people spritz oil onto the food (like with a Misto pump) to get a fried-esqe effect; you can get a crispy coating, if you find the right recipe procedure, but don't expect it to be magically "deep-fried" like they advertise. You can also make interesting things like avocado fries in it.

One of the things I consistently use it for is reheating homemade quesadillas. This recipe will change your quesadilla game forever. Cook a quesadilla with your favorite filling, let it cool, slice into triangles, and flash-freeze on a Silpat-lined rimmed baking sheet for a couple hours, then vacuum-seal. To reheat, airfry at 400F for 6 minutes. Makes the crust puff out like a pizza puff & is actually more fun to eat than when they are fresh! I keep a healthy supply of a variety of flavors in my freezer at all times for convenient snacks; they're really good with various dipping sauces!
