What to put in xorg.conf to get my Samsung TV to work?

I have a 32" Samsung LCD HDTV I am using for my monitor. I installed Fedora Core 6 and when it tries to boot into the GUI my TV blanks out with "Not Supported Mode"

I am not sure how to remedy this in xorg.conf. Has anyone had any experience doing this?

I don't have much experiance with it in terms of HDTV.

But here are some clues:

In your Xorg.conf you will find several sections. The ones you care about are the Monitor section and the Screen section.

For the monitor section here is what I use for my laptop:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "COLOR LCD"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 28-51
VertRefresh 43-60
EndSection

The Identifier is important to leave alone as it's used in other sections of the configuration file. (if you change that you have to change it in a lot of different places). But the rest is fair game. Change the settings to match your horizontal and vertical refresh rates.

Then the second part is the Screen section:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "ATI Technologies, Inc. M9+ 5C63 [Radeon Mobility 9200 (AGP)]"
Monitor "COLOR LCD"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 4
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

that is what I use for my laptop. The important things are the color depth and the modes.

Pick the resolution you want and stick it in there. The color depth of '24' is the same as '32bit color' in Windows. (it's the same thing, just different ways to look at it).

Now even with those settings correct it may not work as TVs have been a bit more figity. If so you probably will have to specify modelines, which I don't know much about.

but see if you can change it so it works doing the simple way.

I have not had any experience with HDTV directly, but I do make simple modifications to the xorg.conf (formerly XF86Config file) on a regular basis. First off I suggest you make a backup copy of the original xorg.conf file. Then the simplest would be to call up the display configuration utility and pick the "Generic LCD Display" driver that most closely matches, but is at or less then the resolution of your HDTV. See if it works. If not then change the resolution and refresh rates (in that newly created xorg.conf file) to match that of your HDTV.

What is the TV's native resolution? Sounds like you are trying to display a resolution that isn't supported.

Ok, so I got fed up with Fedora and installed Ubuntu which picked valid settings so I could see things. However, I don't like Ubuntu past that

So, what I did was copy down the working settings from the xorg.conf in Ubuntu and put them in the xorg.conf in Fedora and it worked. However, it is only displaying in 1024x768. The LCD TV's native resolution is 1360x768. In the Fedora GUI I am not given the option of that resolution. Is there something I need to do to get it to show?

I tried putting it directly into the xorg.conf, but it isn't being used I don't think.

...
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
...

That is how it was originally. I tried modding the Modes line to include 1360x768, but that doesn't work:

...
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1360x768" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
...
