What to set the AGP Aperature size as in BIOS

Hi, Ive gotta 512MB of RDRAM and a Gforce4 ti4200 128MB and i was wondering wht im supposed to set my agp mapped aperature as? Oh and does anyone know what enabling RDRAM Turbo mode will do?

Question :

There is an item named "RDRAM Turbo Mode" in the Advanced section of the BIOS setup menu. What's the function of it?

Answer :

It's used to adjust RDRAM delay time. Enable RDRAM Turbo Mode will speed up the RDRAM.

As to AGP size either 64mb or 128mb is the common sizes for most users,so chose either one(I use 128mb size,I too have 512mb total ram).

Generally around 32-128MB. Doesn't make much difference when you have 128MB's onboard the video card. You're basically telling it how much system ram it can barrow if so happens it runs out of buffer room on 128. But 128 MBs of onboard vram can handle any game.

As for RD ram turbo... Im guessing all it does is set the memory to lower memory timings. Meaning the ram has lower latency and can handle given tasks quicker. Could give system instability depending on what type of system ram you have.

Regs is correct, with a 128mb card or even a 64mb card for that matter you will likely never use the memory allocated in the apeture setting. The Apeture setting is geared to vid card with 8,16,or 32mb of ram

Just a further point,when you use higher res and bump the AA up it will use more video ram,games are getting more demanding all the time ,Doom3 and HL2 will be two good examples and I won`t bother meantioning current games, so the more ram that`s free(set a side in AGP aperture size) for graphic textures (if the AGP card needs to borrow it from system ram)etc the better,remember at one time 64mb was enough now 128mb is the common standard , 256mb will be the common size down the road.

Bottom line it`s depends on the game,resolution,AA etc you use.Right now you can get away with small AGP size if you`ve a 128mb card,down the road that`ll change .

I usually keep mine at 128, but every now and then I'll go 256.

Leave it at 64 MB, going higher only if you have problems.

My present working system (Dragon1) is set to 128MB AGP aperature, but on my new system I just doubled the video RAM and system RAM to 256MB and 1GB, respectively. Should I then double the AGP aperature to 256MB? I'm guessin "no" and I should keep it at 128MB as well until I either play Doom3 and/or start using AA and AF. Is there a good hardware guide or article on this subject somewhere?
