I find myself going to get snacks from the vending machine during the work day more than i'd like.

Already on my list:
- Fruits
- Greek yogurt
- Almonds

What's on your list?

Good call on almonds. The fats in them will keep you feeling full/satisfied. Carbs will typically leave you feeling hungry. A handful of almonds typically does the job for me.

Peanuts, and I measure out 1/4 cup of them. It's way too easy to eat 500+ calories of nuts, especially when you're doing something else and not thinking about eating.

I'd choose almonds, but they're a bit on the pricey side.

I usually fast until early afternoon, then eat a good meal, but I keep some jerky, nuts, and dried fruit in my desk just in case I'm running low on calories or energy for the day. Also have a tub of whey protein that I almost never use, and a can of kippered herring.

Cottage cheese, protein bars, apples...

I think I'm going to start hard-boiling eggs to take to work with me as snack food.

Nuts (almonds and macadamias)
Jerky (all kinds; beef, salmon, bison, etc)
dried fruit
cottage cheese
greek yogurt

I find the best price and selection on nuts and dried fruit at Trader Joe's.

I avoid anything junky (chips, pretzels, candy, etc).

coffee and water. I eat 3 meals a day and leave it at that. I know it isn't the "ideal" way to "lose weight"...but I'm not trying to do that and I seem to function just fine with this plan. If I snack throughout the day, that just ends up being extra calories that I don't need. And I'd MUCH rather eat a few extra calories of my wife's home cooked meal than some random stuff during the day.

I would actually say that if you don't have any issue with it then it is ideal for you. The whole "eating more meals increases weight loss" thing is just flat out false.

Completely wrong. The human body is made to eat fewer small meals, as opposed to 3 large ones. Among other things 3 large meals per day as opposed to say 6 smaller ones, plays havoc with your insulin levels. Actually I'm not even going to reply further to this post. It's wrong, just flat out incorrect.

Sorry guys, but it's old bodybuilding crap that doesn't hold up to scientific rigor. In fact, there is a lot of evidence in recent years that actually eating less often (using an intermittent fasting protocol) works much better for getting lean while preserving lean mass. If you don't believe me check out sites like The Lean Saloon or Leangains for some examples of very muscular, very lean dudes who eschew the whole "eat 6 times a day for fat loss" BS. Here's some more info as well.

salmon Jerky? :hmm:

I go something like this:

Breakfast: Shake consisting of: 8 oz. (soy)milk, 2 Tblsp. flax., 2 eggs, 1 cup blueberries, 1 scoop ON choco protein powder, 2 Tbl. greek yogurt
Snack 1: Apple
Meal 2: 5 oz. tuna
Snack 2: banana
Meal 3: 5 oz. tuna
Meal 4: 8 oz. chicken
Meal 5: 8 oz. steak, and then broccoli, or mixed vegetables, or spinach
Snack 3: 1 oz. walnuts
Pre-bed (if I worked out that day): 8 oz. cottage cheese.

The meals kinda blend into each other; I forage, so they sort of go into one another

So apples, bananas, walnuts, cottage cheese; those are my typical snacks.

There's the warrior diet too. I prefer more frequent small meals because I like to eat a lot. However, while dieting sometimes I'll group meals together so I can have a larger more filling meal.

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with either approach, just do what works best for your style of life and eating. I just don't want people thinking there's anything special about eating more often and getting neurotic about it (as I have done in the past myself).

I read again recently some article in runners world (?) or some such referencing the multiple-meals vs larger small meals and basically there's no difference. Certainly not a substantial one. I eat a lot of small meals simply because I am a pig and it makes me feel like I'm eating more but barring some strange medical condition I would think a large breakfast, lunch, evening meal is fine.
