What tools do I need to replace tie rod ends?

I'm thinking of doing the job myself. From what i understand, I need a big rubber mallet and a big wrench. Am I forgetting anything?
Can I jack up one side of the car and do one side at a time, or do i have to jack up the whole front end?
Is there anything else I can replace while I'm down there? Anything I should check on?

BTW, I have a 91 735i.

Anyway, if you don't have one, GET A SERVICE MANUAL, then study the front end chapter carefully, it will tell you what you need to know.

Since it isn't locked yet...

You'll also need a Tie Rod End Puller. It looks like a big tuning fork with the ends tapered. Once you see it and a tie rod end you'll know what to do.

If you have an Auto Zone by you they will loan you this tool for free (That's a deal IMHO).

Don't buy it - you won't use it often enough to justify the expense. Borrow away!
