we drink either 1% or fat free organic store brand. We get the organic as it has a much longer shelf life and we don't drink a lot of milk.

Skim. Milk fat is just too rich and makes me nauseous. Also, it's healthier.

That's debatable. The stuff they add back into the milk after removing the fat isn't suppose to be good for you.

What exactly are they adding back into skim milk? It's just whole milk, with milk fat skimmed off the top. Then perhaps some vitamins added.

Milk without fat doesn't look milky, they have to add things back into it.

About milk: I'll bet most of you voted for reduced or non-fat. But if you'll turn to page 153 of "In Defense of Food," you'll read that processors don't make low-fat dairy products just by removing the fat. To restore the texture --- to make the drink "milky" --- they must add stuff, usually powdered milk. Did you know powdered milk contains oxidized cholesterol, said to be worse for your arteries than plain old cholesterol? And that removing the fat makes it harder for your body to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins that make milk a valuable food in the first place?

I think In Defense of Food is a really good book. It's main motto is about eating natural food that hasn't been processed. Also, it doesn't necessarily support organic food and all that hippy stuff.

You might need to find a new book. There is nothing synthetic added to skim milk but Vitamins if desired. Skim milk does NOT have the same texture as whole milk, it's a much thinner mouth feel because.. well.. it lacks the same amounts of fat. It DOES look milky. There is no powdered milk in my skim milk. My milk contains the following contents: Fat Free Milk, Vitamin A, Vitamin D. That's it. I have no doubt that somewhere, at sometime, there exists Skim milk that may have certain additives, but I've never had Skim milk that's anything but milk without fat and vitamins. Please though, educate me about all the additives in skim milk.

Soy. I just don't like the taste of regular milk. Not lactose intolerant; I can have other dairy products and I can cook with milk, but I don't like the flavor. Also, soy milk lasts a lot longer in the fridge without spoiling.

I used to buy Silk but recently some stores near me have been selling Full Circle brand soy milk, which is virtually the same but costs $1 less per half gallon.

skim or soy interchangeably... more skim than soy just because it's cheaper and easier to get (re: I can buy skim at the liquor store/deli across the street from my house; I have to actually go to the grocery store for soy).

sometimes I'll mix them, half skim/half soy.

2% I prefer whole, but milk with less fat keeps longer in the fridge.

I don't understand skim milk. It tastes like crap, like diluted water. How much milk are you drinking in a day that you need to save like 4-5 grams of fat or even up to 7-8 in the case of whole milk that you sacrifice actual flavor in milk for it.

whole milk reminds me of a milkshake after drinking skim for so long.

I drink soy milk now. That silk brand is actually really good.

I can't touch dairy. I'm allergic to it. I get really super fatigued and sick. Get all congested too.

Glad I'm not the only one!

Same way I feel. After having been raised on skim, drinking whole milk at any time feels like downing a milkshake.
