They're not too hard to fix, but for mice, they are very hard to replace, unless you know a source for that kind of cable. Each fix usually involves shortening the cord. Some amount of length is needed for slack, and most common cables off the shelf are not as pliable.

usb a-b cables are a dime a dozen. All you gotta know how to do is basic wire stripping and soldering, really. Not a skill everyone has, but it's not exactly quantum physics.

You don't even need usb 2.0 spec, just bargain basement 1.1 spec ones, you can find them way cheap at various outlets.

So, like using dollar-store ones? Normally, my experience with such USB cables has not bee good, but it probably won't matter for a mouse (usually it's a case of using them getting some kind of corruption, dropped device, etc., with external HDDs, and then getting a different cable, and then tossing those).

:hmm: I think I still have 1 or 2 of the Intellimouse Optical mice, that are intermittent...I may have to try a resurrection or two, just for the hell of it, now. P.S. I found one, and I'm pretty sure there's another in a junk bin around here, somewhere.

I tend to mount a 5 pin mini-usb plug into mice I really like when their cable goes out, then just plug in a cable... replace it with shorter or longer when I want, and when one goes out.

It's an intellimouse you know its gonna break.

Mouse is Sidewinder x5. Had it for about 5 yrs. Works fine for me. I bought the Logitech for a new PC; using the Sidewinder on ROG laptop.(Sorry for not being accurate...Intellimouse was not an accurate description)). However, I will admit the left mouse button is not as responsive as it should be. Wearing out? But after 5 yrs., not too bad.

The main mice I've used the past 10yrs:

Razer Diamondback - used it for 4-5yrs and loved the accuracy but started developing some quirks and the DPI couldn't keep up as my monitor resolution got progressively higher.

ROCCAT Kone+ - Great sensor but the scroll wheel made it super annoying to use. Apparently it's common with the Kone+ to have the outer rubber of the scroll wheel start to spin independently of the mechanical wheel inside the mouse.

Razer Mamba - I love this mouse. Initially I was against a wireless mouse for FPS gaming because of the stigma from older wireless mice with too much latency. The Mamba feels just as quick whether in wired or wireless mode. Shape is great although it is a tad small for bigger hands. Tracking is great too. I can game 25 feet away from the receiver without issue (something my Logitech Mxxx can't do).

Clearly Superior Technology LaserTRAC 2545W.

Bought a few years ago and it's still feels new. The internals of the trackball of top notch. Never need to clean rollers either.

Been using a trackball since 1993 for my home PC. My work PCs have optical mice. It's great to come home and use a nice trackball.

lights > no lights
I would have to disagree. I personally have as few of lights as possible in my computer gear, including my clear blue computer case. Sure looks better to me without lights.

lights > no lights

Technology of all kinds should be F-22 Raptor sleek, not geek-bling.

In all honestly I don't mind some lights, but there are some people out there who just go crazy. If there's a light it should at least serve a function, some sort of indicator. And fucking side windows *blargh*.

Corsair Vengeance M60. Fits really well in my hand and I like the bit of added weight that comes from the metal chassis.

R.A.T. 7 because of the conforming features .. no problems either. just gets a little dusty by the eye and i simply use a q-tip to clean the eye from dust, then i stick it in my ear and clean my ear out..

I've had a wired RAT7 for a few years, but I'm thinking of switching to the g700s. Pretty solid reviews all around, and 1) I'm intrigued by the wired\wireless options and 2) getting a little tired of the sensor\z issues on the RAT.

My Razer mouse died(first one Diamondback optical sensor died, second one Deathadder left button was triple clicking so worn out) so tried the X-luca Team Scorpion mouse and found it to be excellent,http://www.teamscorpion.net/design3.php

I don't think I will ever go back to Razer they are overpriced and poor quality on reliability IMHO.
