What Upgrade Option Should I Choose?

This is my setup in the next week or so.

Msi K7T266 Pro 2 R/U DDR Motherboard
256DDr Crucial Ram
30Gig Hard drive
850Mhz T-Bird
24x Liteon CDRW.
8x DVD Drive.

I would have about $75 MAXX! to spend.

The main purpose of this machine will be DVD To VCD Conversions..

So what should i upgrade to get to maximize my DVD To VCD Conversions?

I was thinking processor, like sell my 850Mhz and get like a 1.2. That way its way in my $75 Maxx budget.

I was also thinking BIgger hard drive, but i said, thats why i got a 24x burner. To burn things straight to cds.

Lastly i was thinking about getting more ram maybe one 128mb stick or something.

What do you guys think i should get?

Hmmm, I'd go for a 1.33GHz T-Bird, or a new hard drive.

Ram can wait till it either goes down, or till you have more money.

I've never done DVD-VCD conversions, but I think that's a more CPU intensive procedure than anything else. In that case, I would go with a new CPU. TCWO.com has a 1.4 T-bird for $95 (must mention pricewatch). They don't have tax and a $7 flat fee for shipping, so that's $102. If you can sell your 850 for more that $27 you'd be at your maxx. (Note- 1.4 T-birds run much hotter than 850, so you might need a new HSF, which would add to your total).

Definitely get a faster CPU, and go for an Athlon XP if you can. They rip through these conversions compared to their TBird counterparts. If you have any money left over, you might want to pick up a 16x DVD-ROM for faster ripping.

I've done quite a few dvd to vcd conversions on my computer. I find that it would go much faster with a faster processor. you ram looks good. upgrade your processor as much as you canl. that would be my advice.

...and if you can save some empty bottles, an extra 128MB RAM would make you a pretty nice little system there.

The XP processors have the area between the L1 bridges removed. XP processors may work in dual-CPU mode, but they are not supported when used in that fashion.
