What video card for the computer artist - not the computer gamer?

Recomendations?

I have an Annihilator Pro lying around which i could use for the machine, but i'm wondering if it is worth it to fork out the dough for a brand new card.

Is there a noticeable difference in Photoshop with a video card that has 64 megs and a video card with 32 megs?

The computer will be used 99.9% exclusively for Photoshop and other graphics programs.

I don't know about windows, but w/ Xfree86 4 (or maybe even the 3.x versions), X automagically maps pixmaps into onboard video memory for caching. When i switched from my old 16MB TNT to my new 64MB gf2, there was a very very noticeable difference in 2d performance. especially when working w/ large pixmaps. Sorry this doesn't directly answer your question, but windows/photoshop might do something similar.

Most definatly with out a doubt the G450.
Matrox has the best 2D Quality I have ever seen, much better than the Geforce, V5, or the Radeon.

I second the vote for the Matrox G450. It has superb 2d quality, it blows all the other cards out of the water, 2d wise.

If you're not into 3D gaming, then Matrox is your best bet, I add another vote to the G450.

I'm going to have to add another vote for Matrox. They make one of, if not the best 2D cards out there. I'm using an 8 meg G200 and I love the colors on it. It's time for me to upgrade but I'm afraid to loose the great 2D from this card. But I need a card that can run games as well so there's that rock and a hard place again!
