This must be the biggest POS operating system I have EVER had the displeasure of working with. I mean, what the hell was the point if this pile of elephant dung??

I don' t know, it was considerably worse than Win98. They probably just wanted to get something out since NT 5.0 (aka Win2K) was about 3 years past-due.

WinMe looked kinda okay, but it sucked donkey balls. I used tweaked Win98 to look like Me or Win2K .

When I first started here, my workstation was OEM licensed with ME. I have since given that system away. It crashed about once a day on average, but wasn't stable for running any processor-intensive programs....including java-based programs.

I heard a rumor that the Consumer OS Group was trying to convince the higher-ups that moving to an NT-based kernel for the consumer OS was the right thing to do. Not all the brass was convinced...so in retaliation they then released Windows ME and support costs went through the roof...

I agree with the "release SOMETHING so the idiots don't upgrade to windows 2000" idea. With Win95/98 being named after their respective release years and being consumer OS's, a lot of the public thought Win2k was a consumer OS. Except it wasn't, and a lot of hardware didn't work with it.

The "mad programmers released it" argument doesn't make any sense. You honestly think a major OS release could happen without SOME of the top brass knowing it sucked?
