Probably trying to swallow when the inside of your mouth is a mass of sores from radiation. That, or extreme lower back pain where you can' t move due to the pain. It's a toss up. Probably not nearly as bad as some of you have had though.

I had a medical issue where there was a infection in my large intestine that grew to the size of a baseball, i went to the hospital with only hours to spare as untill that time the pain was what i would consider manageable(i hate doctors/hospitals, and always wait way longer than any sane person to get help). They told me if i waited a few more hours it would have killed me and there would have been nothing they could do, it was a real scary time of my life..

When i went in it was first thing in the morning and i woke up in so much pain in my lower stomach that i thought i had been stabbed in my sleep, the first thing i did was pull back my undershirt and check for blood, thats how convinced i was i had been stabbed.

Luckily i got medical attention just in time and was on IV antibiotics 3 times a day for a week and a half.

But for the first few days i was in so much pain they had me on morphine, the doctor told me infections like that can hurt more than childbirth.

While working construction, I ignored both the "don't go above this step" warning and the "do not lean" warnings on an A-frame ladder and it kicked out from under me. Must have caught my foot in the rung on the way down as I dislocated my left ankle. My dad heard and came in and saw my shoe sideways at a funny angle and said "tell me your shoe slipped off your foot." It did not. Luckily nothing broke, but I tore pretty much everything that keeps it in place.

It wasn't really the injury itself that hurt the most, but starting to put pressure on it and exercise it once it "healed" was awful. I think when it actually happened there was so much adrenaline involved that I could barely feel anything. I felt almost dizzy on the way to the hospital, but there wasn't any blood loss.

Kidney stones for me too. I've had 12 so far.

I don't know if it's the strongest pain sensation known, but I do hope that there isn't any pain worse than it.

Tell me everything you eat and drink so I can avoid it like the plague

Oh it can be worse. I once had a kidney stone on the move while driving home when a gas bubble decided it wanted to have a UFC championship fight with the kidney stone. Or at least that's what it felt like.

A distant second was a kidney stone (>1/4") getting stuck on the way out. Yeah, kinda like having a gumball stuck in your penis. No biggie though, just drink a big glass of water, sit very still, and wait.

Thankfully I have a much higher pain tolerance than most.

I was in a fire when I was 12 or so and got 2nd and 3rd degree burns on about 80% of my feet. I had to relearn how to walk once everything finally healed and do lots of physical therapy for it. To be honest, the most painful part was what they call debriding, where the infected and burned flesh is removed from you. Imagine like 3 adult men holding you down inside a whirlpool bath while another scrubs your wounds with instruments under jets of hot water. The fire itself + all the rehabilitation were nothing compared to a few sessions of that shit.
Yeah, that sounds pretty nightmarish.

Crushed chest from a car accident, broken ribs, split liver, punctured lung, internal bleeding, etc.

During what I thought were my final moments of life there was an interesting battle between my bodies urge to keep breathing versus avoiding the overwhelming pain caused by breathing. Avoiding the pain was the winner! Fortunately I would pass out and start breathing again for long enough to wake up and enjoy a little more pain induced suffocation.

kidney stone.

it is the strongest pain sensation known.

I had an ear infection where the entire side of my face swelled up and the ear canal was completely swollen shut. They had to shove a tube in there so they could vacuum puss and whatnot out my ear canal and apply antibiotics. That was the most pain I have ever experienced even compared to kidney stones.

That said overall kidney stones were worse. The pain itself wasn't quite as bad but while the ear pain subsided the kidney stone pain was unending to all but morphine.

I had a pilonidal cyst that needed to be surgically removed and the recovery from that surgery was painful. The cyst was deep and the sides of the incision could not be stitched shut, therefore the would was left open. It was stuffed with gauze and had to be cleaned and packed with fresh gauze every day. Wound took about 3-4 months to heal and close up by itself. Was bedridden for more than 2 months. You really understand how all of your muscles are interconnected and how your back is the center of those connections. So much pain that I took opiate painkiller for 2 months until I was sick of being high and then just gritted my teeth and bared it.

So *you're* why I have to watch a video about ladder safety every year.

Seriously though, this is one of those threads no one really wants to win. I got a crown today and the air hit it like a bolt of lightning. Reading this thread makes the tooth hurt...

I took a nut shot from a softball while sprinting from third to home. Buddy on first threw as hard as he could (big guy), catcher missed, one bounce, no cup. I think I was safe but to be honest I don't remember. Collapsed and started screaming. But i'm sure that doesn't really factor relative to some of the other stories here. Though I was swollen for a long time. I have no confirmation that my boys can swim, though to be fair that's been the plan so far.

reading this thread makes me so uncomfortable, I'm literally squirming in my chair reading it...

anyway my vote is kidney stone. Mine was 11 years ago, and it was horrifying. The pain was one thing, but the part where they asked for a urine sample, and my pee was red as BARN PAINT.... yea.

I forgot to mention I have a high pain tolerance but ear infections piss me off. I have undersized tubes and they block all the time.

and here is the thread I posted about my kidney stone attack:

Probably the recovery from getting rearended on a motorcycle by a car on the interstate, but the recovery from hernia surgery was fun too.

When I got my tonsils/adenoids removed around the age of 11-13, I remember the pure agony even though it was 20 years ago. Also had my circumcision around the same years. BOTH WERENT FUN LET ME TELL YOU

My most painful physical experience was waking up a couple years ago with back spasms, something I never had before. Every slight move in any direction felt like strips of flesh being torn off my back with a pair of pliers. It took me 90 minutes to get up from the floor, with help, where I had slithered down to in hopes it would be easier to climb back up to my feet (which it wasn't by any measure.) I had no idea back pain could be that ridiculously crippling!

I've had back pain twice in my life. Probably the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Like spiderwebs of insane pain. I pity anyone who has to deal with that kind of pain on a regular basis.
