I bet most of those who were drafted and sent over to Nam would have traded places with him in a heartbeat. I don't fault the Dub, in fact I think it was a smart move. Unfortunately for those who were drafted and killed or maimed they didn't have the same opportunity as he did.Originally posted by: Condor

Lucked out and didn't have to go. Good thing too because I wouldn't have been able to get a college deferment not would I have had someone to pull strings and get me in the Air National Guard. I would have been stuck in some rice paddy scared out of my mind shooting the first Villager that looked at me cross eyed.Originally posted by: Condor

Felony? Uh, felons cannot vote, much less run for president.
That can't be true! Kerry is a confessed war criminal and he is running for President! Democratic govenors are sending ballots to prisons!
I think the year I spent in country would have taken more imagination than I have. How about someone who was there and knows that Kerry's stories simply don't match the facts. I was in Dalat, Bien Hoa, Saigon, Can Tho, Bang Me Thout, Cam Rahn, Pleiku, etc. I've met a few fakes and the give away is that they can never pronounce Bang Me Thout. They don't do well pronouncing "33" bier either. No, the only pretenders are you liberals. Most of you seem to be Joe College and can read, but haven't done much else. I did read the age of the posters thread.
I have my 214, where is yours? I have 10 points veterans preferance for federal jobs. How many do you have?
Actually, most RVN troops weren't in rice paddies. I was AFAT ALC. Just the Bonnie Rats were in the paddies. They had the toughest duty next to the tunnel rats. The most dangerous was Huey driver. So, lets assume that your insinuations are correct despite Bush volunteering on record to fly F102's in RVN and he did avoid the draft through political influence. How does that compare with John Kerry's get out of jail free card concerning his confessed war crimes? That must have taken huge pull. He actually said he did those things! I think he was granted a pass because, even back then, he was seen as a liar and exaggerator.
I have to tell you that I have no idea which of the candidates is actually telling the truth. I think both are political animals. We all have to make a choice and none of have enough real information to do that. I can only go back to my experiences in life and weigh both against what I have seen. That is all any of us can do. This exchange has probably been one of the best I have seen on the threads. I leave it respecting your position and your thoughtfulness. I am glad it occured. I sometimes get very negative about the ones of us who are liberal, despite knowing better. It just goes into the heat of the debate and I hope no one takes it as being from the heart.
Now, lets get back to verbal war as usual!
