i never thought Alien to be scary. i thought it was cool.
i had my first Gamma World rulebook bought for me when i was 10yo, and then D&D. i loved monsters of all sorts, shapes and sizes. zombies and such didn't scare me, but i positively HATED when someone in a horror film does something dumb (don't go in the basement Jeff, the monster is there!), which is, you know, like 97% of horror film content.
around me being 12yo i started buying comics, but not Marvel or DC, but rather Pilot', Comic Art, Eternauta.
i explained it all here:

when kids my age were concerned with whether or not wolverine will regrow his claws, i was concerned if Ranx Xerox will find the heroin he needs. I tell ya, them Euro comics were hardcore. The only thing that i liked of US comics was Lobo. Not Justice League Lobo, but standalone Lobo, like The Last Czarnian.
anyway, euro comics style are really dark .. i should say that while these publications were mostly french (although not *in* french), many of the stories came from south america, Argentina primarily. They take dark to another level .. the stories were really grisly, grim, oppressive. And totally NSFW. We had tentacle porn way before Weabos made it a thing.
