OMG! those old black & white movies really fucked up my early years.. I had a vivid imagination as a child, didn't help that I could spell at a grade 12 level in grade 1.

I saw parts of Alien when I was 4. I am also pretty sure I saw Phantasm pretty young as well. I also recall some movie where it ended with this woman who cut off guys heads with a knife and the last shot was something like her a throne with guys heads on spikes...no idea what it was.

The first one I watched that I remembered in detail and scared the hell out of me was John Carpenter's The Thing.

I don't know. Maybe part of Child's Play. I remember feeling paralyzed with fear anytime I saw Chucky, even on the VHS covers in the horror room at the video store.

I don't know what I watched first but several of them combined to make my childhood terrifying at night.

Poltergeist - Don't look around my room at night.
Twilight Zone Movie, the thing on the plane part - Don't look out of windows at night.
Cats Eye, the troll thing in the wall part - Things come out of your walls at night. Didn't help that I actually had a hole in the wall in my closet that something did crawl through to get in my room one night, ironically it was a stray cat.

Those three movies really made nights miserable for several years.

The original "The Thing From Another World" when I was about 10 although there was one with a tiger in it that wasnt a horror flick but that scared me worse than any horror flick I ever saw.

"The Terror" series on TV or any show set in the blowing snow and ice still gives me the chills.

watership down.

The Black Hole was also plenty creepy for my age.

funny story: i was scared witless by the kitchen scene in Gremlins, so much so that i had to walk out of the theater.

i was never really into horror, although i did like Dawn Of the Dead, i never found it scary. my first real impact with HORROR, was reading the collected works of Lovecraft, at circa 13yo.

Oh yea Watership down that old nasty rabbit General Woundwort lol.

hah! good old watership down for the traumatizing..gotta love it.

Ah Watership Down. Oh look a cartoon about bunnies!

Wait! OH MY GOD!

The first one that really got me was seeing Aliens in the theater with my dad around the time I was 10-11.

I’m calling it. You didn’t watch that movie you dreamed about the end of Game of Thrones. Cersei is going to win.

i never thought Alien to be scary. i thought it was cool.

i had my first Gamma World rulebook bought for me when i was 10yo, and then D&D. i loved monsters of all sorts, shapes and sizes. zombies and such didn't scare me, but i positively HATED when someone in a horror film does something dumb (don't go in the basement Jeff, the monster is there!), which is, you know, like 97% of horror film content.
around me being 12yo i started buying comics, but not Marvel or DC, but rather Pilot', Comic Art, Eternauta.
i explained it all here: https://imgur.com/gallery/i3XdG

when kids my age were concerned with whether or not wolverine will regrow his claws, i was concerned if Ranx Xerox will find the heroin he needs. I tell ya, them Euro comics were hardcore. The only thing that i liked of US comics was Lobo. Not Justice League Lobo, but standalone Lobo, like The Last Czarnian.

anyway, euro comics style are really dark .. i should say that while these publications were mostly french (although not *in* french), many of the stories came from south america, Argentina primarily. They take dark to another level .. the stories were really grisly, grim, oppressive. And totally NSFW. We had tentacle porn way before Weabos made it a thing.

I remember Evil Dead 2 when I was like 7. So, when I was like 8 years old and we had a family trip to disney world, I was terrified of the "Country Bear Jamboree." At least thats what my mom & grandma tell me.

The first one I can really remember watching in full is probably Pet Semetary. Scared the fucking shit out of me.

I also have memories of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, but that was more my older brother watching them and then trying to scare me. I also remember The Fly and Poltergeist a bit but not fully either.

Other notable horror movies that scared me as a kid:

Alien
It
Tremors
Salems Lot
The Shining
Cujo
The Thing

The only movie to ever give me nightmares was Fantasia. Actual horror movies did nothing, but for some reason that movie scared the crap out of little me.

Yes the sorcerer was pretty mean looking and the brooms marching with that tum tum te tum music track and night on bald mountain. Dang looking at it again looks pretty trippy.
