The oldest browser I can get to work in Win XP is Netscape 3.04.

Netscape 2.02 crashes immediately upon launch. I might be able to get it to run if I could turn off javascript without having to first open the browser.

I also tried NCSA Mosaic 2.11, which will open in Win 95 compatibility mode, but won't even attempt to display any web pages.

I believe it was IE around 96 or so. I am not sure at all though. We had internet through a local provider and I don't think my Acer came with any proprietary browser. So it was most likely IE or Netscape.

The first browser I ever used was the one that was provided by Prodigy

Same. I remember being on AOL (2400 baud, baby !!) and seeing an ad for Sears Roebucks jeans, thinking .. OMG, this is just fascinating .. lol ... no more driving to a mall to buy stuff !

Mosaic 1.0. Then mostly netscape navigator - then a whole lotta lynx.

Interestingly the guy who created Netscape, also owned a massive megayacht, and built a company to develop his own yacht monitoring/alarm and entertainment system - called "Seascape".

is not a web browser. Quantum link went dark before the WWW existed.

I used Gopher a lot via unix machines like "grex.cyberspace.org", and "m-net.arbornet.org".

I used email via FIDOnet long before everyone had an @ sign.
