Most people will not notice that the price is, say, $1.899 and will think they are paying $1.89 per gallon when actually they are paying closer to $1.90
It's probably the same reason why you see a lot of items in say a grocery store that are priced at $X.99
But yeah, I see the difference with gasoline. No other products (that I know of) are priced down to the tenth of a cent.
