My 33K connection but it can only transfer me around 800 bytes at most.
Must be a really crowded backbone

I've had the following connections (yes, I've owned seperate pieces of equipment capable of a maximum of the following):

*55bps Baudot (5 bits per character) TDD connection
*110bps ASCII (7 or 8 bits per character) TDD connection (it was amusing checking e-mail on a 40 character, 1 line display)
*!300bps modem - Hayes?
1200bps modem - Hayes?
!2400bps modem - Packard Bell
*9600bps modem - Teleblazer I think
!14.4kbps modem - Teleblazer I think
19.2kbps modem - NexCom 300vi (TDD/modem combo)
28.8kbps modem - Motorola
33.6kbps modem - Motorola
!33.6kbps modem - Whoever made those wonderful Packard Bell combo cards. Aztech?
56kbps modem - Aztech
64kbps ISDN connection VERY briefly (and wasn't mine technically) - I forget the manufacturer
!512/64kbps cable modem - Prime Cable, Com21 ComPort
!512/128kbps cable modem - Prime Cable/Cox Communications, Com21 ComPort
!1.5/384 RADSL - Sprint/Earthlink, Alcatel modem.
!768/768 SDSL - Covad/Speakeasy, Efficient SpeedStream modem.

* = Never connected to a "real" ISP through this connection (BBSes with Internet connections not counted)
! = I still own this piece of equipment.

2400 was the slowest I've ever connected, but not to the Net... when I upgraded to 14.4 it was like night and day though... SOOO fast!

USR Sportster 14.4 external was one of the best computer purchases I ever made I think. That thing was rock solid and performed beyond expectations! Best $250cdn I ever spent!

oh, well, my cable modem was cheaper, and just a little faster.

I can't remember if my first was 300, 1200, or 2400 Baud. 2400 was blazing though I remember my old list of local phone numbers I would try to call up to connect to BBS's

2400bps using America Online 2.5 and trying to connect with its browser. I'm not sure if I was ever able to actually open up a website.

I had a 9600 fax modem on an IBM Aptiva.
I think it was only 9600 for faxes, and actually slower
for data.
Used AOL until I went over my hours ($28 worth)one month.
Friend at work sold me his old Gateway Telepath 14400
for $50. He had bought a 28.8 for over $100.

Despite having a 56K modem at work, neither my boss or I can connect any faster than 28.8 due to the bad phone lines in that area. 26.4 is also a common connection speed. We tried to get DSL but are too far out & cable internet access isn't available in the area at all. It really is too bad cuz we are constantly viewing and downloading plans & specs for jobs we are bidding on. Takes forever and a day.
