2400 Baud modems, from my Amiga up to my AMD 386-40 Still BBS's
16.8 Zyxel modem, had that up until somewhere in my 486's was used for bbs's and the internet.
28.8 Zoom modem, had that till somewhere in my pentiums. Some bbs's, mainly internet
28.8 flashed to 33.6 US Robotics modem, had that till shortly after I got my last Cyrix 6x86. Occasional bbs but mainly internet.
56k US Robotics Modem and other modems. Had and still have this modem and the ones in other computers and notebooks. Internet only.
Cable Modem - Internet only, had one of these for years now, Had it since the beta test had started in the area. Been great.

Wireless

14.4

Upgraded to 56K, went to T1, and had to go back to 56K. Boy, did that suck. 56K is not too bad for loading webpages, but downloading files and multiplayer games is a pain

2400...Upgraded to an Optima 28.8 when they came out ($405.62, introductory sale from some long-defunct computer store, regular price: $629.95 + tax). I probably ran $100/month in LD charges, dialing every BBS I could find. It was a competition kinda like DX'ing and collecting QSL cards with shortwave

Question: For those old BBS'ers out there: What did you use for COM software (I was always a Qmodem person...Still have a copy of 4.5!) Some of the locals used Procomm, and we'd have friendly GTG's where we'd compare BBSnotes and argue for hours about which was the better software...

2400baud connection to bose2 from home. Bose2 used to be my dad's linux box that handled the gateway to the internet from home.

<< 14.4 on my mac classic. it was coo in 94 >>

I had the same exact thing 14.4 on a Mac Classic, I use to spend all of ny time on the BB's of Prodigy. That is actually where I heard the news that Kurt Cobain commited suicide on April 8, 1994.

9600. Ahhh, the (sheer) speed of ftp server downloading on small *.zip files back in the day.

E-mail was but a novelty back when I first started off.

Web pages? HTML? Non-existant.

Netscape was making a name for itself in the browser market and just only recently, Microsoft (and Gil Bates) was planning (scheming) their next product "innovation" for the better good of the consumer of Internet Explorer and it's integration into Windows.

Ahhh...life was damn good!

my dad used to have a modem for his apple IIE i have no clue how fast it was... we never got it to work right probaBly because we live in the styx and the fine world of the early internet hadnt made it here yet or sumthen...

but considering i was like somewhere between 7-9 at the time im gona have to claim that i realy didnt even care about it then and claim my first as a modem slower than a 14.4 on a pionex 25mhz 486 sx .... i was about 10 then and had no clue how fast it was.. i know when its mobo was fried by lightning and dad uped it to a 486 dx2 66mhz he also tossed in a 14.4 .... the one thing i do remeber is hoping between one service after another using free deals... once used aol for a year without even paying.. everytime we said we were gona quit... they gave us 100free hours... then when i got my first pentium class computer... a 75mhz pentium classic.. 16mb of ram 800mb hard drive was an acer aspire.. i was like 11 or 12 or sumthen was a not so well designed computer... but was cheap... still had a 14.4 in it... few more years later though... bought a Cardinal 56k isa data/fax modem... thought it was the fastest thing ever and finally i was old enough to realize computers were cooler than legos.... (not by that much.. legos are the coolest yeh!) well then finally this year that cardinal isa 56k (which btw was just a u.s. robotics with a sticker that says cardinal over the chip... wierd eh? )was put to the old comp parts box by my cable
: -)~
btw im 17 now...
and if you wana get real technical the first computer i ever personaly owned actualy had a 56k win modem.... cost me a 1$ heh... worked horridly... but worked...
and then my current comp has never even had a modem in it.. wierd eh? makes yah wonder...
uhm ok im done..
word to your mothers

Not sure how fast (or should I say how slow?) this is .. I used the internet at a cyber cafe back then and the time it took for me to open a Hotmail email and reply to that one was about half an hour ... and it was a very short mail ..
