First car - 1986 VW Jetta - drove it until 186,000 miles when an inattentive driver ran into me and totaled it.
Second car - 1990 VW Passat - drove it until i realized it was a piece of junk, i.e., a wheel fell off when i was driving on the highway and the battery kept dying every two days
Third car - 1998 VW Jetta - still driving it. good car, but i'm a little paranoid after the last one. probably no more vw's for me

KokomoGST -

I think there's a trend towards the imports because American cars seem to be getting worse. I guess no one wants to drive a Ford and die in a burning rollover wreck.

97 Accord Sold
94 Metro Sold
88 MR2 Sold
00 Civic Si Driving
79 Civic Driving

The accord is the only automatics that I ever had. The metro is 1 liter and 40 mpg in city. MR2 is the most fun car I ever drive. My SI is really fast, I wonder if it runs on rice? And 79 civic is my mistress, Shhh....

<< Is it just me or is there a trend toward away from domestic cars to the imports (even if they're imports made in the US)? >>

Haha, yep.

First: 1987 Pontiac Sundbird
Current: 1995 Toyota Camry LE

Sunbird was a POS that spent half of it's life in the shop, the Camry has been bullet-proof.

"...a trend toward away from domestic cars to the imports"

There's been a trend by American consumers to buy either Japanese econoboxes or American clones of them. I repair my own cars, so I'll stick with old domestics... I don't own any metric tools!
