Car was an absolute piece of crap. You turn on the maplight and the electrical system crapped out. You open the rear passenger door, the electrical system crapped out. It died within the 6 months I owned it.

That said, it made for a memorable car.

Gas was cheap enough that I didn't even think about it... prolly around $1/gal

so your dad didnt mind you driving a car that wouldnt stop good enough for him? lol, that cracks me up.

Ya, me too... the reasoning was that he had a long way to drive/i shouldnt be driving fast anyways... logical, i know

Bought it with my own money in the fall when I was only 15. Parked it for the winter and pulled it out in the spring when I turned 16. Gas was around $1.00. I know I scored it for less than that a few times.

'97 Hyundai Elantra, rebuilt, bought in 2000 with 35000 miles on it.
I still have it, I think it's somewhere between 90000 and 100000 miles.
Highway mileage is 30-35mpg, depending on how much junk I'm carrying.

The body was in decent shape, but the shocks were pretty bad. The windows leaked because they didn't quite seal with the convertible top. The engine had no pep whatsoever. Still, it was a good first car, and I upgraded to a new '99 Ford Ranger 2 1/2 years later.

I shared a car w/ my brother and sister when I first turned 16...gift from my grandparents. 1990 Ford Escort Wagon, she was a beaut. My senior year I purchased me a 1994 Mazda 626. Loved that car.
