I call it the Original Pussy Wagon:

Actually a great college car, hatchback held everything I owned and on road trips, you could fold the rear seats down and two could sleep comfortably. It also got ~28MPG.

My parents had one of those. I think it was an '81 or an '82. Damn thing leaked so much oil my dad had to add a quart every two weeks. My brother used to call it the Exxon Valdez, lol. It never left us stranded though. I was a kid when we had it and I hated it because it was a two door and there was no roll down rear windows. Just these crappy ass vent windows that would pop open about an inch and not let in any air. My dad used to smoke then and I would be choking on it in the back seat with no way to get fresh air. God that sucked.

Wow, some of you have been pampered (while others continue to be so) my first car was a 69 Rambler American hardtop my sister inherited it when our great aunt passed away in '95, it was registered to my parents but it was the car the kids drove. The first vehicle I had registered in my name was a 88 toyota camry that my wife brought into our mairrage in 2000. The first car I purchased was a 96 saturn sl2 I paid ~$5k for in 2002.

The oldest car I've had was about 30 years old, the newest car I've owned was 6 years old. Oddly enough the 30 year old rambler was the vehicle with the fewest miles on it. My daily driver is now 14 years old.

I'm another AMC guy. First car was a 1966 Rambler Classic hard top.

My grandfathers car. Parents gave it to me for a graduation gift and said here's the money to fix it up, you're driving it to college. A master cylinder, 3 brake cylinders, 2 drums and some brake shoes and off I went.

Still got the car. It's in the middle of a resto but put it in storage until I got my own house and a garage to work on it. This is the motor I replaced the straight six with before I moved out of the parents house.

A 1991 GMC S-15 Jimmy, 2-door, 2wd, red, with the 4.3L V6. My parents still have it, it's still going strong, and I will work on refurbing it when I get done with all the work I need to do on my daily vehicles.

1988 Volvo GLE (sedan). It was ugly, the engine had no balls, drove like a tank, had a leaky sunroof and wouldn't start below -20C. But I loved it.

1984 Cutlass Sierra LS - 2.5i4, throttle body injection, 173k miles. I still miss that car. OTOH, I learned to drive on my parent's 87 Caprice which I now own/operate.

My first car was a 1981 Ford F250 regular cab, straight-six, 2wd, 4-speed with a granny low first and a deep rear end. Had tons of rust, tons of torque, big ol' mud-gripper tires and an appetite for batteries. I had it when I lived in Alaska, man I loved that truck. Made a custom roll-bar for the bed in my welding class. Sold it when I left because I couldn't afford to pay my parents the cost to have it shipped to the states.

Koing

Wow, I didn't realise that there is a super mod (or any mod for that matter) on AT, who is a fellow Brit.

Edit: My mum owned a '91 Astra 1.4l and my brother had a '96 Astra 2.0l Sport.

79 Fiat Brava, AKA the "Rustmobile." By far the crappiest car I ever owned (but was fun to drive!)

68 Chrysler wagon with a stock 4 bbl 440ci with about 450 HP IIRC. It was the Magnum/Commando engine. Heavy pig, but once it got rolling it broke egos in brand new Mustangs and BMWs. Had it over 120+ mph and it felt like the tires weren't even touching the ground anymore.

If I remember we got the car for not even $500.

This was my first car. It was 10 years old and had almost 100k miles on it when I got it but I loved that car, it gave me freedom, it was fuel injected, had disc brakes, heated front seats, a 4 speed manual transmission, and it was great in the snow. That car took me all over New England and to countless concerts at SPAC. I bet it would run circles around a Scion TC in the snow even to this day...assuming you could find one that old in decent condition. It was a tank, a tank with excellent weight distribution. It was worthless in the summer though, constantly overheating.

My next car, a 1975 Pontiac LeMans GT, was much cooler but totally fucking worthless in the snow and it was a rust bucket by the time I moved out to California in 1990 (which is why I didn't take it with me-another good move on my part). I bet that car is also rotting in a junkyard somewhere in upstate NY right now.

Looked exactly like this but a bronze color with black interior, not that hideous red with white. It had the same grill, same chrome bumpers, same fake hood scoops and louvered side windows.
