First Computer:

Apple LCII With Mac OS 7 I believe 40MB HD

8MB of Ram......wow how things have changed

Then owned a couple of macs....went over to the evil side...and started using windows.

First PC:

700Mhz PIII
512MB Ram
40GB + 120GB HD's
DVD /CDRW
128MB FX5200 Vd Card

Its all in my rig

Still using my PIII....Its 7 years old...but runs pretty quick for a dinsaur age computer. Im going to keep this computer probably for 4 more years...before I retire it for good.

Next computer might be laptop or built p4 or xeon

Jeez these are some old PC's.

Now the real qustion is what games did you play.

I thought mine was going to be really old but what are some of these 4.7mhz processors im seeing? What was the maximum speed of an 8088?

First:
Commodore 128 with all the fixin's (disk drive, 300 baud modem, printer)

Second:
486 SX 20mhz w/ 2mb of Ram and an 80mb Hard drive
Upgrades eventually took this one to 75mhz (overdrive chip) with 6mb of Ram

Third:
Cyrix 586 100mhz w/ 16mb of Ram and a 1GB hard drive
Eventually upgraded to 32mb of ram

Fourth:
Cyrix 686 P200 w/ 32mb RAM and a 5gb hard drive
Eventually went to a Cyrix M-II 300

Fifth: (lines are starting to blur between upgrade and new machine now )
AMD K6-2 450mhz w/ 256mb of RAM and a 17gb hard drive
Swapped out mobo/CPU to a Celeron@550mhz eventually

Sixth:
Celeron@850mhz 256mb RAM 60GB hard drive, plus the 17gb drive

Seventh:
Athlon T-Bird 1200mhz 512mb RAM, 80gb drive, 60gb drive, and the 17gb drive

Eight: (current, but about to replace)
Athlon XP 2100, 512mb RAM, 120gb drive, another 120, the 80, a 60, and the 17

Also, laptop:

Athlon Mobile XP 1500, 256mb ram, 30gb drive

I'm sure I left out a few changes (like I said, it's hard to seperate #5-#8, since to some degree I've just been upgrading since then).

Planned next system:
Pentium 4 3.4ghz, 1gb of ram, and somewhere around 500gb of combined hd space.

CX5M - Yamaha Music Computer.
It was an MSX computer, which was a Japanese attempt to conquer DOS. I think they failed on that count
It came bundled with various music applications which were on cartridges. Very advanced for its time as a music computer. Not exactly a Fairlight, but then it was a mere $1,000 or so.

Commodore PET w/ 4k RAM & Tape Drive

My father was a school teacher and in 1976, he convinced the district to buy it's first computer. He would bring it home on week ends. I can't even remember what software it would run. I do remember typing in a lot of code manually. I once wrote a "Space Invaders" game that did actually run on it!

First computer was a TRS-80, IIRC it had a Z-80 or 8086 CPU, and a built-in 360k floppy. Smokin FPS on Pong!

I remember this from the Adlib sound card brochures. The Adlib was released as a low-cost alternative to "expensive music computers". And by golly it was! Sounded just as good and worked like a dream!

*sighhhhhh* NOTHING has had a more profound effect on me than when I first discovered the AdLib sound card - years before it would be supported in any computer game!

It was either 32 or 64 kb RAM, not even a floppy for storage, but did have MIDI in/out! It certainly had its priorities right

1. Epson Equity II - 4 or 8 mhz (turbo button), 640kb of ram, 20mb hard drive. It ran DOS 3.3, and later windows 1.0 (No mouse, and monochrome screen. What a concept...) I learned to program in GW-Basic with this thing, and it was the machine that sparked my interest in computers. It could run some old games, slowly, like flight simulator 2 and a few others. Man, good times, it was awesome. I wish we still had it (it stopped working, so my parents got rid of it). We had it when I was about 6, and got a newer one when I was about 9.

2. Packard-Bell 486 - 66mhz, 4mb ram, 350mb HD. It ran windows 3.11, and later 95 (slowly). I basically started playing games and surfing the net with this one, and programming in HTML and Q-BASIC. I remember giving up on windows for internet use, and using Arachne (DOS based browser) because it was infinetly faster than IE or *what was that old browser, it was the basis for mozilla I believe...*.
We got it when I was 9 or so, and replaced it when I was 11.

3. HP - 800mhz, 128mb stock, upgraded to 384, 30gb hd upgraded to 80. This one I started playing real games with, and really started HTML and graphics work. I stopped with Q-BASIC, which I shouldn't have, I was getting really good there for a while. This box also sparked my interest in hardware when I upgraded the RAM (which didn't go so well, the RAM I bought at first didn't work, so I had to RMA it ). Then I started browsing Newegg.com, and gained quite a bit of knowledge about hardware/etc that way. When I learned what components went together to build a system, and which ones worked with which, I really started liking hardware, and since my parents wanted me to enroll in some classes at the community college, I decided to take one on the A+ cert, and another computer class without a cert, then, later Network+.
As a result, I got a job doing PC repair, which is nice, since I can use my skills there to work.
We still have this one, and probably will for another while (I'm 15 now, and even though I do work, I dont get paid much, and don't work very many hours anymore...). Next one will hopefully be something along these lines:

Athlon 64 3200+ - 1gb corsair XMS - 80gb hd (maybe more) - 9800 pro
It'll take a while to save up for this, especially if I do decide to buy an xbox for halo 2 (I'm leaning in that direction)

Vic 20, I didn't mess with it much though.
C-64, this compter was bad ass. Wasted so many hours gaming on this thing, Paradroid, Racing Destruct Set, Spy VS Spy.....
Amiga 1000 - anyone remember all thos Pygnosis (sp?) games? Barbarian was the 1st game I played on the Amiga-BLEW me away. Starglider was another I was hooked on-the game on load had 10 sec of real music with some euro band singing about the game-that amazed me...good times

First Home PC:

Packard Bell
486 DX 33mhz w/ 8 MB Ram
124MB HDD
3.5 Floppy, 5.25 Floppy
Later upgraded to 2x CD-ROM, 12 MB RAM and Sound Blaster sound card.
Took forever to get that sound card up and running. I think I had to set all sorts of IRQ settings for different games to get sound. Played old LucasArts X-Wing and Tie Fighter on that machine, SimCity, and Wolfenstein 3D (ahh first giblets, horrified my mom that I was ruthlessly stabbing dogs).

First 'puter I owned:
Dell P3 500mhz Slot 1
128 RAM
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
DVD-ROM
Aureal Soundcard (A3D was cool)
14 GB HDD

Upgraded to:
1Ghz Duron
256 DDR
ECS K7S5A
Radeon 32DDR
14 GB HDD

Now running:
XP 2100+ at 2.0Ghz
1 GB RAM
MSI KT4V
Radeon 9000 Pro
160 GB Samsung HDD
Samsung DVD/CD-RW

My parents were still using that 486 up until 3.5 years ago.
