The first system I had? Wasn't too bad, it's the computer that I had before this one.

Dell Dimension 2350.
128 MB RAM (Later upgraded to 640)
2.0 GHz P4 (I think it was a P4)
Integrated video (later upgraded to Radeon 9200 SE)
Integrated Audio (later upgraded to Sound Blaster Audigy)

IBM XT 4.77MHZ Processor 8088, Monochrome Graphics, orange color tinted monitor, 14MB HDD 2 5.25 FDD drives that thing was the shizznit at the time. I still have it and it's in the living room, we have a Printer/scanner/copier right next to it and we joke all the time about hooking that Printer/Scanner/copier into the IBM LOL! It took us a while to uprgade agian and out next system was a 486 (Dont remember the processor speed) ATI 2MB Mach 32 Graphics 21" Monitor etc.. And then the list continues on from there (wayyy too many machines after that like 15 to list).

I just remembered, I don't know exactly what the first computer I used was! LOL! It was some kind of mainframe.

I accessed the mainframe computer using a DECwriter Terminal. (That was back in the mid 70's).

It connected to the mainframe by use of an old 300 baud (seemed more like 10!) modem, you know, the OLD kind where you dialed up the mainframe using a rotary phone (you kids probably don't know what that is) and then placed the handset into this box that had two rubber cups that fit around the mic and the speaker. There was a time when that was cutting edge...

Lets see. First purchase: Tandy 1000HX. Color monitor, no HDD, 5.25 inch external disk, 3.5 floppy. Added 300 bps modem..(major upgrade), 8088 processor (7.16mhz), 256k or ram. Tandy DOS 2.11 was the OS of choice. In all this machine was a major iprovement over the Radio Shack TRS 80 which was provided as our colleges educational choice. This machine used a tape data storage system. There was very little software to use and programming in basic was what they taught us. Boy have we come a long ways in 25 years.

Still own the Tandy

My first was a 286 based Tandy machine, but I had a Commodore 64, if you want to count that.

That is called an acoustic coupler. Had those...

We used punchcards too!

Cheers!

DEC PDP-8 and PDP-11. Bunch of us started programming a PDP-8 to run an ocilliscope to play a asteroids type game. Before completed we upgraded to a PDP-11. This would have been in the early 70's. Was really cool playing a 2 player games on a tall tower type maybe 16" diameter scope.

Moved the game to a VAX later.

Played with several CP/M machines with 8080s and the huge Z80 upgrade. Did a lot of assembler then. At the end of it's run CP/M had 64K memory with the OS taking about 35K or so. Sure learned to page!

Built up a program to run on a HP125. The customer bought a 4MB hard drive for about $4,000. It was divided into 4 logical drives of 1 meg each which matched the size of the 8" floppies the system had.

Big machine in 80's was a AT&T 3B2. Great machine!

Since have moved on to various less distinguished machines. But sure faster ones

1) Commodore 64 with a freaking tape drive. For some reason I never got the "head adjustment" right. I remember having nightmares about the color screens loading and the game not showing up.
2) 486 DX2/66. 4 MB Ram. I remember the day I got a cd-rom. I did not have to use 20 floppy disks to install my games.
3) Pentium 100Mhz 16MB of ram
4) Athlon XP 2500+ 512 MB Ram
5) Really want a 12" powerbook (probably the best looking laptop I have ever seen, though not the fastest) And a Dual Opteron workstation.

1st computer I ever owned or 1st I've ever used?

1st I've ever used was at school, called the Classmate 88. it was teletype (no screen) and had a basic interpreter. I was in 2nd grade.

Next came the Commodore PET computers.

Then the C64

1st computer I ever had at home was a Tandy 1000. 8088 7.16mhz and 384k of RAM which I upgraded to 640k. According to Bill Gates no one would ever need more than 640k so i use this computer to this day and run Windows XP on it. I hope longhorn works on it too.

Just checking to see if you're paying attn.

Anyway after that I was on computer haitus till the 486 days when I got a DX33 with 8 megs of RAM and I think a 245meg hard drive IIRC.

After that was a PII 266, then a celery 366@550, and now an Athlon XP 2400+ 1gig RAM 80 gig HD. CGA graphics...nah jk, geforce 4 4200 128Meg.

My first comp was an 8086 with a 10 mb hard disk and an X87 FPU. This was way back in 1986 I was a kid then,
Then I hadda 486DX laptop with 8 megs ram and windows 3.11 in 1993.
A pentium-133 overclocked to 150 Mhz in early 1996 with 32 MB IBM EDO-RAM and a 2112 MB Fujitsu HDD.(my first overclock and it was a Tyan mobo)
Then A pentium-pro 150 with 64 megs EDO and seagate medalist 4.3 gig HDD. LAter I also hadda voodoo-1.this was in 1997
Then a Pentium-II klamath 233 overclocked to 300 on an asus P2B in 1998 with the same 4.3 gig HDD and Voodoo.
The P2B bios was flashed and a 450Mhz Pentium-III katmai was installed with a Matrox G-400 which was just launched. this was late 1999 if im correct. (Intel was to launch a camino chipset with AGP 4X, but it was never launched and I stuck to my good old BX)
october 2000: a pentium-III 700 Coppermine with an Asus CUBX-E motherboard.(I was compelled to buy this mobo because it could take a mammoth 8 IDE devices at a time) THis processor was overclocked to 1050Mhz on a stock HEATSINK!!!! I miss those good ol' days. 384 MEgs of SD-RAM and a 40 GB seagate U-6 5.4Krpm drive. A geforce-2 GTS was also was installed.
2002: AMD athlon XP-1800+ and a KT-333A. 256 MB DDR (pc-2100). 80 Gig MAxtor.
now I havva 2000+ T-bred with 1.5 gigs ram , a7-n8x delux with uber BIOS, Asus V9520Magic, SB live! 5.1 connected to my sony hi-fi....

The first computer I really used was an old 16 MHz 286 with, I think, 2 MB of RAM on it. This was in 1987; that meant that it was actually pretty fast.

If you want to go far back, though, I did end up playing simple games on one of the first IBM PC clone models (Compaq's). Monochrome screens and not even a hope of using a mouse!

My first computer was an Atari 400. My first PC was an Amdek (I think), it wa an 8088 with a whole half meg of ram! In turbo-mode it ran 10mhz, I bought a whopping 10 meg HD for $600, a Magnavox 12" EGA monitor for $650. The whole thing cost like $3000 after I was done. That PC is long gone but I still have the Atari 400!

My first home PC was a Radio Shack Tandy 150 bought in 1976, the B/W monitor was built in, and it used a cassett recorder for recording Basic programs. I learned Basic programming and my greatest accomplishment was a program I wrote that would interface with my Ham Radio [ via the cassett port ], allowing me to receive and send CW. I designed a small circuit [ in effect a D/A convertor ] for the connection to my transmitter, the receiver fed CW sound directly to the cass port. After many trial and errors, I finally got the thing to work up to about 16 wpm, the timeing was very critical. I located a basic compiler, after awhile and got the sys to work up to around 30 wpm reliably. It was sure neat to see the received code just stream across my screen, of course, THEN, I had to learn to type fast as well. I do remember useing some canned responces, such as callsign, location, the CQ CQ CQ thing ect.

My first computer purchased was an IBM PS/1 Consultant. It had an i486SX 25MHz processor, 4mb RAM, 170mb HD, and a Cirrus Logic 512kb on-board video. It came with a 1400 baud rate internal modem and, at that time IIRC, Prodigy came bundled with the computer, since i couldn't afford the membership, I use to connect to local BBS. The first computers I used were Apples and Tandy's, but i can't remember the exact models although the monitors were monochrome.
