First one I had as a kid was an Apple 2 clone, called Laser 128. It had an 4mhz processor. The first one I bought myself was an emachine:

I bought this is in year 2000 which was a very slow system, for that time. The upgrade bug hit me within a year of using it. I used this system until 2002 when I upgraded to an Athlon XP.

My first computer was a Commodor 64 with an external floppy drive. It also had a cartridge slot and the word processor was IN a cartdrige! I didn't really use it for games; rather, I liked to write very, very simple BASIC stuff on it.

First PC was an Acer 386DX-33 with 2 Megs of RAM and a 40 MB HD (which was quite low even for then...circa 1992). I got it for games exclusively, though I was the cool kid at school for turning in papers written in Word. I later got one of those Logitech handheld grayscale scanners and I thought it was the most amazing thing in the world.

First PC I built myself: 486DX2-66 with 8 Megs of RAM and a 500 MB HD and a 4x CD-ROM drive with Windows 95 (which ran like hell, by the way). I later put a 14.4 Kbps Creative Labs Modem Blaster (Which came with a Warcraft demo...woot!) on it, giving me access for the first time to the internet.

Thanks for the replies... it's amazing to see what was the shizznick way back when... hearing the term "monochrome" a lot, and that makes me cringe Am just glad no one has yet said they had something that used punch cards LOL

If you mean like the title says, First Computer, Commodore 64 and later Atari 130XE. Commodore kept blowing chips. Atari was very Reliable and I still have it on a shelf!

If you mean First PC like in your text, Homemade Intel 286/16 System with 1-Meg RAM, 40Meg WD HDD, Trident 1-Meg ISA Video, 3.5" & 5.25" Floppy Drives in a FULL SIZED desktop case. It first had Hercules Monochrome graphics card with Amber monitor, but went color shortly after.

Someone i knew years ago used to be a programmer on the old punchcard systems.

He moved to a new company, and changed the room-sized computer from 12K to 24K by bypassing the manufacturer's lock. Saved the company about $20000!

It was bought from a guy who built PCs in his home, back when doing that kind of thing was still profitable.


The first one I ever built myself:
- Pentium II 300
- 64MB PC66 RAM
- 6.4GB hard drive
- 4MB Trident 9750 AGP card (mistake), augmented later by a Matrox m3d PCI card. Later, I got a good deal on a TNT card, my first "real" AGP videocard. Damn that thing was fast.
- ESS 1869 ISA sound card, the best generic ISA sound card I've ever used
- 15" monitor

My first computer was a Commodore 64. My first real computer and by that I mean a computer that ran DOS, Windows etc... was a Tandy 486SX 25MHz with 4MB of ram and a 1X CD-ROM. At least the cdrom didn't have a caddy...heh.

The first computer that I built was a PIII 450MHz with a 440BX chipset. Ahh, the 440BX, what an awesome chipset. I think the mobo was an Abit mobo but I'm not certain.

The first true 3D card I had was the TNT 2 Ultra card with 16megs of ram I think it was. That was a good card! I say true 3D because I had a Diamond V something with 4 megs of ram and they said it was accelerated but it was crap. The Diamond card came with my Micron PII 400MHz system with a full tower.

That was the last computer I bought. I've been building them ever since!

Coco 80 from Radio Shack. The screen was the TV. Storage was on a regular tape drive...loading games was somethin.

Then it was a IBM PC clone : 10 Mhz in turbo mode (why they even had a turbo mode is beyond me...who would turn turbo off?), 30 MB hard disk, amber screen, and a 5 1/4" floppy.
