IBM PC didn't even know about speeds then, 2-5.25 floppy drives, NO hard drive. Color monitor, Hayes modem, Okidata printer. Costed me $5500.

A Timex Sinclare, little tiny thing. You could use just about any tape recorder for storage, and any tv for a screen.

Commodore VIC-20. Then I moved up to a 386 25Mhz, to bad it only ran at 8Mhz, bad motherboard I think. But that was back in the day where it cost a fortune to get stuff fixed so I lived with it.

I ran a BBS with a 300Baud modem!

My first 'computer' was a Sinclair Spectrum, circa 1986. I believe it had 64 kb RAM and loaded/stored programs on an audio tape.

My first PC was a Pentium 166, with a 2gb HDD, 32 mb EDO RAM and a crappy 2 MB SiS PCI video card (9215?).

I got you beat. Although I sort of owned a 486 DX4 100mhz AMD for a while, the first one I purchased with my own money was:

P90
16MB DRAM
850MB HD
4X CD ROM
2MB ATI video card
14.4kbps modem (28.8 was too expensive!)
Ensoniq elite sound card (this wasy waay before they were purchased)
15" CRT
Rolling ball mouse & crappy keyboard
Cheap ass speakers
Got it 5 days after win95 was released like, 9/5/1995

This thing cost me $2300!!!!!!!! And it was a bargain at that price. Ram was $40/meg then!

Lets see, what did it lack:

No network card
No USB
No Firewire
No FAN on the heatsink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No stability!!!!

My VERY first computer was some Tandy-looking setup with an ungodly green display. I couldn't begin to tell you any system specs. It had some version of Ms-DOS. Very old and tired.

My REAL first system was a Fingerhut special...Cyrix 233Mhz chip on some mobo that was SUPERGLUED to the case...a 2gb hard drive....32mb RAM (i think), and a CD-ROM.

The first system that I built was basically a hand-me-down system of my older cousins (who originally got me into this comp-tech thing). P3 700Mhz, Asus mobo (can't remember exact model), 8gb HD, 32mb video card, generic sound card that came with system listed ^^above. Cousin originally put all the parts together, and basically sold me the main parts that he was replacing, and we put them together with some of my old Fingerhut leftovers.

First:

Some 286 with Windows 3.0
DUAL 5.25" Floppy drives (OMFG thats like BURNING ON THE FLY)
640kb memory
So little HD space, I couldn't install a 5.25" floppy of games that my uncle gave me =(
But this was a company pc my mom brought home

First real comp:

P90
1GB SCSI drive (wewt)
16MB RAM (later upgraded to 48)
2mb Diamond Stealth 64
M$ ball mouse using serial
PS1 Keyboard
Some Creative sound card.. was it SOUND BLASTER back then?
Win 95 was released 2 months later... so I had 3.1

I OCed this computer in my freshman year (5 years later) to 100 MHz, and tried 120 but wasn't stable. 100 ran well =).

Lets see I got a 14.4k modem some time later from a friend, but we never paid for internet, so I never could go online =(. It was only until my mom got an ISDN line and brought a unix machine home that I could go online. Then the P2 266 that she brought home was godlike because I could finally install Flight Simulator 98.. YEAaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The first system I built is my current system in my sig. Sad isn't it. February (winter break) 2001 of my freshman year. I am currently on my laptop that I bought in senior year before going to college.

So yea.

1) 286
2) Pentium 90
3) Pentium 266 (my mom's comp really)
4) K6-2 400
5) Athlon 1100 (upgrade to 1400)
6) Dothan 1.8
7) Athlon 64 3700+ (HAHAHA I'M DREAMING of this one)
