Worked at True Value hardware/Radio Shack for 2.65/hour. This was the "training wage", minimum wage at the time was 3.80 or something.

When I was a freshman in high school, I delivered newspapers once a week for the local newspaper. It was a few cents for every paper delivered and I didn't make but like $35/month. In hindsight, it kind of sucked, but $35 was decent money when I was a freshman with no car, etc. yet.

The year was 1979 or so. I had a paper route with the Seattle Times. Not sure how much I made as I spent it on on video games the minute I collected from the customers.

First job where I got paid by the hour was at the local Piggly Wiggly. Iworked in the meat dept cleaning up after the butchers left. Made $3.96 an hour. Minimum was $3.35 back then.

I had a paper route when I was like 12-14, paid like $120/mo. to deliver ~100 papers a day. Got a job as a burger flipper at the local A&W when I was 16, paid a whopping $3.35/hr.

Stallion: Hey, my first job was delivering the Seattle Times, too!!! There was no way in h@#l I was gonna wake up at 3-4 in the morning to delivery the PI back then. It's been a while, but I think this was around '85. I still remember making my dad drive me around Sunday mornings...

No kidding, My Dad drove me around on Sundays as well. I mostly had apartments on my route. up and down stairs was a pain. When I went to collect some customers would have moved with out any notice. I lost a bunch of money that way.

I got ticket to the Sonics championship from the Times when they played the Washington Bullets in the Kingdom.. The tickets were in the last row of the 300 level.. Haha

I did it for almost 3 years if I remember right. Another big high point was I took over the route of a guy that went on to play Pro football. I Think his name saw Mike somrthing. He went to my highschool as well. Auburn high. I'll try to remember his last name.

First attempt was in about '71 trying to sell watermelon rinds door-to-door. My mom told my brother and I that folks liked to make candy out of rinds. Didn't sell any (can you believe it?). To this day my mom makes up crap like that.

First hourly paying job was DerWienerschnitzel. Now it's just Wienerschnitzel. Made whatever minimum wage was in '78.

I loved working fast food. It was a different animal then. When I worked at McDonald's you could actually be fired for snapping open a paper bag. Customer might think you were upset. On break you ate in the break room and you sure didn't eat and smoke out in the lobby. We had a requirement when giving change that all bills were face up and facing the same way. These days when an employee tells you to go to hell, if you don't like it they'll get the manager to come out and tell you to go to hell. Not what this thread is about, but whatever.

Walgreens. I learned what it's like to be basically treated unfairly (relative to other workers) and the ins and outs of retail. Worked for 8 months for $6.30/hr (4 yrs ago).
Built character.
