Not sure if it was the first game I played, but I have great memories of Rocket Command (Think this was its name...) for the Apple II. Was such a fun game.

All these people mentioning late 90's games are making me feel old :/

Very first? Oregon Trail on the Apple IIs at school probably.

My families first home computer was a Mac SE, first game was Dark Castle. To this day I can still hear the sound of that 3.5" floppy drive grinding away...

I wish I could remember the name of this Dinosaur educational game that was black and white on an old Mac. Played it at a childerens museum. It showed a map of Pangea and you could click anywhere and see a ground view image of that area and dinosaurs and listen to info about them. It's kinda vague but seemed awesome at the time. Probably late 80's.

Possibly not, I mean not everyone played a computer game from an early age, especially if they grew up owning only consoles and their school didn't allow for much game playing time.
When I was in middle school, we weren't allowed to play games outside of Math type stuff if you can call that a game. Usually computer time was word processing and stuff like that....probably depends on the teacher.

EDIT: First game I played was mixed-up mother goose. Computer had a black and white screen, so I never got to enjoy the colours

Then I played stupid online games on excite.com, there was a tank game (still there btw) and a few other dumb games that I played online. Then I played GTA 1 and had a blast, SC, CS, and other random games followed.

That reminds me of some of my first DOS games; some text, some CGA.

Moon Bugs, Alleycat, Digger, yep. Classics. Especially Alleycat.

Holy crap, I'm pretty sure this is a game I could never remember the name of that I have been wondering about for a long time. I will download it this evening and try it in Dosbox. Thanks!

Moon Patrol and Frogger on the Commodore 64 back in 1984 at my cousins house in England. Weird that my first PC experience was done while on vacation in England with relatives.

My earliest PC game memory is probably playing Space Quest 3. I can't remember if I played anything before that. I had a lot of fun trying to get off the garbage scow.

Oregon trail and brickels on the macs at school or a side scrolling space flight sim on an Amiga at home, I don't remember which was first anymore.

Dear god my sister and I used to ROCK that game. She better than I.

There was also:

And my first commercial PC game was F-19 Stealth Fighter by Microprose. Followed quickly by Civilization, Airborne Ranger and Silent Service II.

All played on a PC/XT clone with 640k of ram, but I had an EGA monitor baby!

Was a Sierra game. Space Quest, Kings Quest, Police Quest and Leisure Suit Larry. Prior to that it was an Amiga 500, which I had connected to the modem to play various BBS games.

Obviously, it was Oregon Trail in Elementary School, but the one that really stood out was either King's Quest on my buddy's dad's computer or Doom on my Middle School best friend's dad's computer later down the road. Doom is the one that really does stand out the most as far as pure wow factor.

This is exactly how I got into the nitty gritty of PC Gaming. My uncle showed me Doom on his Gateway with PP 200 and 8MB of RAM, but a friend got me hooked on Kingdom of Kroz long before that on his IBM XT.
