My first C64 memory was this game we played at school. It was this top/side view hybrid where you walked through mazes and people threw swords at you. I think you could throw them too.

Pong was my first console game memory, but for a PC game it was Scott Adam's Adventure series:

On a TI-99/4A:

I was ~14 years old at the time and remember playing the game late into the night and not wanting to stop. Shocked at how engrossed I had become, I remember thinking that video gaming could become an addiction if one wasn't careful. I wish my father had given me a football or bb gun instead of that damn computer.

It was Checkers the board game for the pc, a Compaq desktop. But as far as a "real" game like popular titles of the day (early to mid 90's) then it would be Magic Carpet (1994) on the same pc.

The first 'computer game' I played was at a military shipyard open house, where I'd pick an angle to shoot a torpedo, then a printout said if it hit.

The second was another open house that had a DEC computer access set up to play the brand new Zork, not on PC yet.

So I was pretty please to meet the co-author of Zork decades later, playing Everquest (and later World of Warcraft).

Now playing Rift, I see a guild named 'Eaten by a Grue'.

The first game I remember was the original hack on the original ibm 8088 pc. I played zork at some point but can't remember if it came before or after. Prior to pc games i remember playing games on pdp-10 and pdp-11. There were some pretty nifty games on the pdp-11 which had a vector display (gt something or other) hooked up so it could do real time vector graphics. There was a particularly interesting space sim but a few others. The pdp-10 had a zork like game called cave or adventure it was similar to zork but predated.

I also played a few apple ii games in that period but I didn't own the system (friend) and for the life of me can't remember any of them in much details.

Before any of the above (by 5+ years) I played 'pong' or 'tank' at the local bowling alley and space lander at huntsville space center but not sure you would classify those as 'pc' games. I remember the fantatics over 'pong' and folks would buy dedicated game systems to play on their tv (we never owned one).

First gaming(not including arcade gaming machines) was probably first pc console I saw and played at a friends ie ZX81 with tomb of dracula,

Sinclair ZX81 specs,

Ha! My dad went to grad school in England (Liverpool) back in 82, and he came home with this thing, the Sinclair ZX-81

I remember the software is on a cassette tape. I don't think I figured out how to use it.

If it's strictly PC (i.e. IBM PC compatible) games, my earliest memory would have to be the likes of Digger and Tetris on an XT 8086 computer. My grandmother was the master, nobody in the family could beat her in Tetris. I remember the version that we got had a maximum score of 655360. So there she was playing the game, the score says 655360 and had stopped counting up so she literally had beaten the game, but the game is still going and the pieces kept dropping, so she just kept playing.

Somewhere in there was also this little game called Sokoban, where you push boxes around trying to put them in their places.

A little later on came the AD&D Gold Box series which were what really hooked me into playing computer games.

I couldn't say my first real experience, so I will go with my first experience I remember on my first "modified" computer, which would be day of defeat. I actually haven't been into PC gaming all that much, and despite getting my first computer about 12 years ago I didn't get into custom building untill 3 years ago.

I will say though, DoD was a fantastic experience to get me started.
