doom was what got me into pc gaming... i kept bugging my dad to upgrade from his IBM XT. eventually he caved in and purchased a 486 >_<). before that i just played on my NES.

then Wizardry on the Apple

then Bard's Tale

then King's Bounty on the Sega Genesis around 1990

the my first IBM PC game would have been Privateer ~1993 and X-COM: UFO Defense whenever it came out

First game that I played for a long time, arcade style, was a Dick Tracy game. It came bundled with the Disney Soundsource, an external sound device that plugged into the parallel port. It also worked with Wolf3d. Used it for 6 months+ until I could afford my Gravis Ultrasound.

Then I moved on to some classics:
Chuck Yaeger Air Combat
Sam&Max hit the road
Earthseige

Of course, Wolf3d, but I spent more time playing the next game that they released. Can't recall the name, but it was the same thing except space aliens/monsters instead of Nazis.

OH man karetka was great i had that for my old atari, never did the apple route.... it must have come out in 1985 or 1986... when i was 3 or 4... i just remember hitting every butgton... looked just like prince of persia, i think it was the fore runner to it... what a GAME

Anyone remember Cyberstrike on Genie network? Genie was like Prodigy/Compuserve/Aol at the time. Anyways, that was my first attempt at multiplayer gaming, and with a 2400bps modem, a failed attempt at that. But Cyberstrike had lots of potential-cool polygon graffix (WAAAY before starfox made them popular), chat with other players, etc.

Stellar 7. On my 286. Came on 5.25" floppy disks. That's disk with a "K". Best game ever.

Couple of games that really sucked up my time where;
Doom 1 & 2
Myst
Scorched Earth
Duke Nukem
Lord of the Relm 2

But the game that really pwed all my time was ultima online, or UO. God, that game sucked up so much of my time its not even funny. I still have an account and play everyonce and while. I just cant make myself to cancel my account, too much time and tears in that game.

oh another awesome old game...that helicopter game based on the (since cancelled) comanche stealth helicopter intended to replace the apache, comanche 3. way ahead of it's time
