I remember staring at these ads forever, drooling over them, wishing I had enough money:

2M Matrox Mystique
Viper 330
Videologic Apocalypse 3Dx
voodoo 2 12MB

eventually I upgraded my stealth 64 for a Viper 330 and voodoo2.

that apocalypse card looked so cool. I think thats the one I wanted more than any other card I can
remember. i think it was because of the magazine ads for it, or even just the name. Strangely, I still want one... I also think they released an apocalypse 2, but I could be wrong.

Progression:
Apocalypse 3D (very rare) - PowerVR Series 1
Apocalypse 3Dx - PowerVR Series 1 - PCX2 (Revision with less bugs and more speed)
Neon 250 - PowerVR Series 2 (If it was on time would have offered TNT2 performance a year before the TNT2)
Kyro - PowerVR Series 3

>> ????? << - PowerVR Series 4/5

I believe it was a Sis chipset... came in a 386SX back in 1990... I believe it had 256k onboard memory. That computer ran at 16 Mhz, had an 80 MB hard drive, and had 2 MB of RAM. I still have it actually.
First 3D card was a Voodoo3 2000 PCI 16 MB. Still have that too.
Then I upgraded to a GeForce2 MX400 64 MB... but that blew up in a power supply failure, along with the motherboard and processor.
So I temporarily used the VooDoo3 2000 for a couple months, then bought my Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 that I'm using right now... that was about a year ago.
Now I have an Asus GeForce4 Ti4200 with 3.3ns RAM coming on Monday that I'm hoping to overclock to Ti4600 speeds.

My first separate card was a 4mb Diamond Stealth 3-d 2000 (based on the S3 Virge chipset, the first Windows deccelerator).

I still have it too.

Ha! In the XT days, my Tandy 1000's 16 colours shocked the heck out of all my firends with CGA and Hercules Mono...
then they heard the 3-voice sound too.... Than I added Adlib well before anyone else....

It was MY house people came to to try out the latest computer game.

I have an Oak Technologies ISA video card I keep in my drawer for old times sake. It has 512k video RAM, and is dated 1990. I remember buying several Trident 8xxx based cards back in the mid 90's, they came with 512k or 1 meg, and had sockets to add more memory chips...I think alot of cards then did. Guys used to buy these, pry out the chips, then return them to the store for some other poor sucker to buy. I also remember paying 199.95 for a Voodoo 1 and thinking it was the total end in computer graphics. All my games suddenly looked so GOOD...heheh.

Lets see...In 1998 when I built my first pc I was all set and I didn't know where to plug in the moniter and tha tis when I learned I needed a videocard.

So the S3 Virge DX/GX 4 meg Was my first Card

Then in 2000 I decided that I wanted 3d acceleration and I picked up a S3 Savage4 (I knew nothing about videocards might I add....) 16megabyte at a bidding place...something like bidprice or egghead...can't remember but it cost me 49 shipped

Then in 2001 I had my 550mhz k6-2 and got a Geforce2gts-v at newegg for 50 shipped...It made a difference in some games but overall I noticed nothing

Then now in 2003 I got A new pc (1700+ @1750) and I wanted a card that would give me TVout. As for games my geforce2gts-v was doing fine so I upgraded to a Geforce4mx420 ddr 249/333@292/472.5 and this is doing great for all my games. Actually I got the TVOUT for watching anime and I figure as long as my card can handle most games at medium to high detail I'm happy

Oddly enough you can tell that I'm always behind the curve Then again I've spent much less than some of you have probably spent on a single videcoard

my first first card was a 1 MB Cirrus Logic PCI card. first aftermarket card was a 2 MB S3 trio based Diamond card that a friend gave me. first "3d" card was a generic 4 MB ViRGE. first real card was a STB Voodoo2 12 MB. then a voodoo3 2000 PCI. then an Elsa Erasor X GeForce 256. then a VT Geforce3 ti200 bought at the Best Buy Black Friday sale a couple years back. i sold that for grocery money and used a Xabre 400 64 Mb for a while. then i got my Radeon 9700. i still remember the first time i played Jedi Knight2 on that ViRGE. man it was slow, but 3D looked incredible!

First videocard was in my old 386sx Packard Bell machine, it had an Oak Technology 512K card.
It wasn't anything special, but it did the job.

My second card was my Diamond Viper 2Meg card which was the bomb for it's time VLB goodness hehe.
Third card was just a 2 Meg PCI card, an Orchid Paradise pipeline 64.
Fourth card was the Voodoo 2, then a TNT2 Ultra, then a GF4 TI.
These were the main machines at the time. I also had some Trident POS as well as a Diamond Stealth and some other crappy isa or pci cards.

Creative Labs Graphics Blaster! It really sucked! I did not notice any improvement when I added to that old computer.

Most of my early computers had integrated graphics. The first video card that I bought was an ATI AllinWonder Pro, and I also got a Creative VooDoo 2 for 3D.
